Bike insurance 2013
POSTED: 5/07/13 1:46 PM

Hi,

Bike insurance was discussed in this thread in 2009. Four years since then, we seem to have following options for cyclists. Has anyone bought either plan?

The latter does not cover Maryland.

Any input is highly appreciated. Btw, I own neither car nor house.

Do you have renter's insurance? When I lived in NYC my bike was stolen outside my office, but my renter's insurance covered it.

Bethany,

Thanks. Renter's insurance is one solution. I worry about theft outside my apartment (like during ride), injuries from accident (both for myself and someone else if I cause). It seems insurance above are comprehensive.

My USAA Renter's insurance covers a set dollar value of property no matter where in the world it's located (except for laptops, PCs, and collectable art works). My bikes and cell phones are actually covered with only a $100 deductable even outside the United States. I had my iphone stolen in Brazil last year and USAA had reimbursed me before I was even back in the United States. Theoretically it even covers me if I crash my bike or drop my phone.
