Is it open yet?
The powers of Google never cease to amaze me.
Weekends until June 21st - then daily -but usually closed one day during the week. Check the link above.
I've never been - what's the story with lanes? Is there lap swim at certain times or do they always leave a few lanes up? When do most people swim/when's the least busy?
I've never been there where there wasn't lap lanes up. I usually hit it at lunch time.
I was at Hains Point on Wed evening (6ish) and was surprised to see the gate at the pool was open and some women was walking in. Is this some DC masters swim thing?
I think today is the day it reopens during week days as well as weekends.
Tho I'm not sure, as the Dept of Public Works link no longer displays...
...If the pool is open, hopefully it'll remain so into the fall, unless some new boondogg--, that is, construction project, comes along.
So I was thinking of going to the pool friday evening after work for a nice long workout, but I am having trouble figuring out the actual hours. I read somewhere that it was 1-8 on weekdays now but then now on the DPR website it is saying till only 7pm which does not give me much time after work...I can certainly call down there but just thought I would throw it out there to you all to see if anyone has been later int evening and knows what the actual hours are and what the hours are in practice...
(and if you want to join me friday evening...my plans include somewhere around a 2200-2500m workout, which, for me as a mediocre swimmer, is LONG and INTENSE!)
Def. closes to the public promptly at 7pm during the week. A masters group uses the pool from 7pm on...
Fridays are usually the best day for swimming at HP...not too busy in the lanes. I'll keep an eye out for ya.
Mandi and I will be there tonight. Will you be there Andy?
Ah, bummer for me - I have a Friday swim on the sched. this week.
I'll shoot for being there next Thursday (and Tues.) at a minimum!
Not sure we'll be there on the same days, but I'll let you know. email me: email@example.com
Does it really only open at 1PM as the website says?
Yes - it really opens at 1p and closes at 7p (closed on Wed) -
FYI: I went Tues night with my daughter (age 10) who is an excellent swimmer and her friend - also excellent swimmer - figuring they would entertain each other while I did laps. Lifeguard told me they could not swim "unattended". So all you with kids out there, thinking you'll get your swim in while the youngin's play in the next lane - no can do - total bummer for me as this is the only convenient way to get my swims in.
For the multi-tasking tri-parents out there. I have recently started employing the kids play/mommy swims technique at the public Bethesda pool on Little Falls Pkwy. It's about 6 pp for non-Montgomery County residents, but they have a nice 25 m lap pool (5 lanes and folks seem to share well) and I have twice swum laps while my kids played in the 50 m pool and on the diving boards and slides under the numerous lifeguards' watchful eyes. As an added bonus, during the hourly 15 minute mandatory kids' rest break, you can swim the full length of the 50m pool. (be warned that you should use it as an opportunity to practice your sighting skills, b/c folks don't always look before starting their laps).
JHJ - Good to hear from another multitaksing Momma - wierdly enough - when I brought my daughter and her friend to Wilson this spring - I did not have the same problem and whent blissfully about my swim while the girls swam on their own (PS - I always make sure whoever comes with us is an experienced swimmer.)
Just got back from Haines Point - where I tried to go to the pool to find it closed because of . . . a "sewage" problem.
Pool manager said to check the website on when it would be reopened and/or call before you head over.
Luckily, I rode my bike there so got in a ride. If you saw a chick on a really old Cannondale road bike at lunch, that was me.
Hopefully they are taking this opportunity to clean it...pretty scuzzy last night.
Let me know the next time you're going to head to HP at 1 pm. I work nearby, so could meet up with you for a late lunch swim.
Andy, that storm did a number on the NCR pool. We don't even have power yet. We did swim yesterday morning, but today was a no-go.
