Looking for a sports doctor
POSTED: 7/25/10 8:26 AM

I've been battling a few injuries all season - mainly ankle and shin from running. Unfortunately, my last doctor (who was already getting a bit expensive because he didn't take insurance) recently left his practice.

Does anyone know of any good sports docs who take insurance - preferably in DC or NoVa?

Also check out Beck and Stewart at Capital Rehab of Arlington. Great PT and Chiro working together with a number of triathlete clients:

Most people on the list are PT's, but I believe that Jeffrey Haggquist is an MD:

Depending on what you need done, Dr. Klimkiewicz at Georgetown has been great with me. He's an orthopedic surgeon, but has a sports medicine emphasis. He very much believes that surgery should be the absolute last resort, esp for active athletes, and considers how changes in treatment affect races. I've been seeing him for my knee, but I'm sure he knows about other parts of the leg as well.

Thomas Howard, MD with Fairfax Family Practice or Garry Ho, MD, also there. They are both excellent primary care sports med physicians who are on the cutting edge of the specialty - patient care focus and also very well published.
