Recycling old tubes
POSTED: 8/12/09 3:51 PM

I have been asking around and have not found an answer yet. Is there somewhere in the area that will take old tubes for recycling? I thought Conte's used to, but apparently they do not now.

I have a pile of them at home and I would rather see them recycled than add to a landfill so archeologists 1000 years from now can see that I ran over broken glass on a ride.

this was the only thing i found, but its for car tires and its expensive for obvious reasons.

it looks like city of alexandria does not seperate out rubber items such as tires and inner tubes in the recycling bins, but maybe your locality does.

or send your old tubes to these guys that make stuff out of them. Seems like this would be a great idea for the club to mail out a box full of used tubes after a year or so. It would cost the club money, but hey the club has enough of it to spend. LOL

Ah, interesting topic. This year, as part of the so called club fees for some events we will be asking for donations of various items (such as, used books, clothes, canned goods), but used inner tubes is one thing we have yet to think off. Maybe at the first club duathlon on March 12th, the voluntary entry fee will be a used inner tube for disposal. Great idea!

Apparently, Montgomery County now takes bike tubes/tires at their waste transfer station alongside car tires:
