I think this goes by several different names, including high intensity interval training (HIIT). It's been a bit controversial, but it's definitely got its proponents. For boosting fitness, it may well work, and I've liked the workouts when done on occasion. But there are other aspects both physical and mental (sitting on a bike for 1-6 hr, no headphones) you must also prepare for in endurance sports.
Sounds like the mice found great work out for themselves. Hope they don’t show up with a team at the club championship.
