I also made a reservation at the Springhill. Any word of when they might announce the host hotel? Is it worth staying there? This will be my first Full IM.
I'm 100% in. I booked my hotel at Sheraton Read House Hotel and Suites. It's close to everything and was only $139 a night.
There is a group on Facebook that is talking about the race. A few people have done the bike course and said it is very reasonable and the race should be perfect.
The group name is IRONMAN Chattanooga 140.6, it's a good way to get information.
How have the done the bike course? As far as I have found, the course hasn't been posted. Just a general description.
One of the IM RDs who was involved posted the proposed bike course and it sounds like they've been taking local groups out for previews:
FYI- They posted Map My Ride/Run links at the official website.
There are 6 people on my Sunday Bike Ride group who've told me that they are doing this race next year. Time to hop on the train folks :) Next year, the Sunday group ride's schedule will specifically geared toward this race. You don't even have to think about your long weekend mileage. Just show up and the crew will do the rest.
If you are a veteran, time to get into this IM IPO :)
If you are a rookie ... if you are waiting until you are ready for your first IM, that time will never come. There is only one way to do your first IM ... eyes closed and both feet in. Life is short. Just Do It!
How did y'all get reservations at Springhill? The online reservation system wouldn't accept a date past Aug 2014 for me.
Did you go through the IM's website or through Springhill's website?
I just took a peak via the IM Chattanooga's website and it shows that the weekend of the race is sold out. It wasn't when I checked last week. They might just have sold out the initial allocation and will open up more rooms at a later date.
I'm staying at the Sheraton Read House Hotel and Suites with a few other DCTri folks. It's the same price. It's about 5-6 blocks from the finish line, on the same street (Broad St). It's in the middle of downtown, so you are close to everything.
Curious - How likely you think it is that IM chatty is a super quick sellout?? Hotel is booked - but hubs is OCONUS for the next week and I should probably tlak to him first...
I don't think that anyone really truely knows how quickly it'll sell out. Since the swim is a rolling start, I suspect that they will have at least 3,000 slots available. Some first time IMs have sold out within a few hours, while others have taken weeks/months.
They've put a race in a good location and during a good time of the year. A lot of folks in the the colder states will be attracted to it due to the fact that they don't have to train over the winter months for races like those in May/June.
I read some armchair quarterbacking from one of the folks on Facebook. The analysis basically said that the number of likes on the IM Chattanooga's page went up pretty quickly and surpassed the number and rates of all of the prior first time IMs when they came aboard. It currently has 3,632 "likes". If that's an indication of interests, I'd say that it will sell out pretty quickly.
Ironman Lake Tahoe, for example, only has 2,200 "likes." Ironman Canada only has 1,600+ "likes" on their Facebook page. Both of those races had their first race at their respective venues in 2013 and yet the number of likes currently stands less than Chattanooga.
I don't think anyone will have issues if they register within the first hour. After that, it's anyone's guess as to when it will sell out. I'd be a nervous wreck if I have to wait until next week to register :)
What does it mean when it says the spots are on hold? I can't imagine that it sold out within 4 minutes... Is the site just being overwhelmed? (Not a computer guy...)
Mikey - Keep trying! It could be the site is only able to handle a certain number of registrations or that if people time out on the site they will be reopened!
Either I got lucky or that was really easy. Heck, I still have 52 minutes left on my lunch hour! Good luck to all!
P.S. Don't know if this helps, but I signed into my Active.com account first in another window. When I got into the IM registration site (first try), everything was pre-loaded and I did not have to log in again.
They give each session 15 minutes to complete the registration process. Keep refresh for the next hour.
I'm IN!!! ...GULP...
Ugh! Now it keeps reporting back as a system error and system unavailable. Am I the only one having these problems? Should I try to find another computer?
Mikey - Try a different browser if you have one. Otherwise just keep hitting refresh. The system is probably overloaded.
Mike ... my facebook feed is full of people who have your same problem. I'm in as well as a few other DCTri folks.
I got the 'on hold' message at 12:01 when I tried to get in & now the whole registration page has crashed. Oh well. :\
IM just tweeted that it's sold out ... in 3 freaken minutes!
