Room booked at host hotel for Chicago 2014; seeking roommate
POSTED: 10/07/13 10:12 AM

I just booked a room for Saturday night only, at the Chicago Hilton -- which is the host hotel for the race. Wife and kids will be staying home for this one. So, it would be great to have a roommate and split the cost. Message me directly if you would like to discuss.

Thanks to our Club Prez and USAT, we’ve secured an amazing bike transport deal for the Chicago ITU races on June 29th.

Register to race and for bike transport by October 31! This way you’ll take advantage of the early registration fees and secure bike transport while this offer is exclusive to DC Tri Club members.

1. Register for ITU World Triathlon Chicago on June 29. (Oly, Sprint, Relay, Paratriathlon categories – something for everyone!)

2. Register for $50 flat fee bike transport.

3. Reply to this thread to let us know you’re IN!

We have 30 club members already registered to race in Chicago so this is sure to be an amazing weekend in the Windy City! We’ll race, watch the pros and Olympians in action, and celebrate in style.

More details and links to the race and bike transport registration are all here: https://www.dctriclub.org//index.cfm?fuseaction=Learn.buzz&id=601.

We're already getting questions about accommodations in Chicago!

Event hotels are now posted the race website: http://chicago.triathlon.org/event_info/accommodations

There are two hotels that are very close to each other and to the race site:

- Essex Inn Chicago, $169 per night
- Hilton Chicago (Event Headquarter Hotel), $234 per night

As of this afternoon, they both have 19 rooms available in the ITU block. Let’s all try to book rooms at one of these hotels while they still have plenty of availability!

Chicago or bust.

FYI, looks like it is cheaper to book with your USAT discount rate at the Hilton than it is to use the ITU link.

Another good question was asked offline.

Q. What if I already registered for the race?

A. You are two steps ahead! Go to the DC Tri webpage and proceed directly to step 3 "Register for Bike Transport". Click there to be directed to a registration page that our USAT friends set up for the bike transport deal.

Be sure to click "attend" on the race page. I see 17 there but I think it's well over 30.

When is the deadline for committing to bike transport? I plan to race, but need to check on a few things before pulling the trigger.

Well, to be fair, the real deadline for the bike transport is Nov 30th. But the registration is exclusive to DCTri club until Oct. 31st. After that, USATriathlon will give out the link to other tri clubs in the region who might be sending racers to ITU Chicago.

Once that is open to the other clubs, it will stay open until either Nov. 30 or we reach the max number of bikes that the shippers can take. Whichever of those two come first.

Hey all! I just wanted to clarify for those who are on the fence...

Two things to know!

The amateur race is open to ALL ATHLETES. The pros are racing separately. The amateur race is just like any other triathlon you'd race in our area... I mean, it will be produced by ITU and the course will be wicked cool, but the race is not reserved for "elite" athletes only!

Also: our race is a USAT-sanctioned race, not an ITU race. The amateur
is NOT draft-legal. Not to fear! Only the pros will be racing a draft-legal (ITU-sanctioned) race.

I hope this helps! A bunch of us went to San Diego when the ITU North American Championships were there. It was REALLY fun. We watched the pro women on Friday, raced our own race on Saturday, and the pro men raced Saturday afternoon. I imagine Chicago will have a similar schedule (though I think the amateur race is on Sunday).

Get in!

Abby
