Can anyone refer me to an article or offer any advice on how to properly plan a triathlon race season? I'm trying to do about 6-7 races next year, and hoping to peak somewhere in mid-August.
You know, I've always wondered the same thing.
Hey, Board of Directors, could we propose an event where we have some coaches talk about how to plan a race season? A Races, B Races, taper, right about of time between long distance races for recovery and stuff like that? The timing is right, since now is the time everyone is looking at schedules and all the races are still open or yet to open for 2012.
I'll like to have something like that!
Glad to play in that sandbox.
I do whatever Rob does.
Cool idea! Just emailed it to the rest of the Board. Will see what comes of it.
Read Joe Friel's A Triathlete's Training Bible. It has everything you need to know to plan a season for any endurance sport. I used it this past spring and had a great race season.
This is a great idea, and it sounds like a training clinic to me, so I'm going to put something together. I'm reaching out to local coaches and elite athletes to give a talk. We'll make it social and accessible.
Thanks for the idea!
This is a great idea! Maybe we could get a lot of people from the club together to set the same races as A races... like Club Regionals & Club Nationals!
Luke: if only they would tell us where/when Regionals will be! :) Hopefully, it will fit into everyone's schedule, no matter what. Nationals is May 12 in San Diego!
All: I'm on it! We will definitely have a panel discussion on this topic. I will post the information when I get the details finalized.
Thanks for the great idea!
Goat any others? :)

I will second Joe Friel's A Triathlete's Training Bible. I've read that book 4 or 5 times. It's a wealth of knowledge, particularly on race planning.
I'm far from an expert on it, but here's a link to the spreadsheet I used for planning a race season. When I started this year in January, I'd never run much more than a 5k and this was my first year doing triathlon. It at least worked well enough to get me through a HIM.
The main thing I liked was I used it to import a year's worth of workouts directly to google calendar.
Good post from DCRainmaker today on this topic:
