Cyclocross in the Olympics has been debated many times. Keep it grass roots or open it to the community? Focus on age groupers or Pros? Debate is similar to when triathletes debate the virtue of lottery weiners vs. qualifiers in the Ironman World Championships at Kona, Hawaii.
keep it the way it should be as it originated.
a cycling winter activity to keep you in shape for the road racing season.
it doesn't need the olympics to be a "legitimate" sport. it already is.
Since cycling was forced to drop several track events, I doubt the IOC will have the clout to add 'cross to the programme. The schedule is pretty full, and it would be one more venue to construct. If it can't get decent worldwide participation, it would be like baseball - not a broad enough pool of competitive countries. Kudos for adding rugby sevens, though.
