Open water swims?
POSTED: 4/04/11 10:40 PM

Now that I have my new Xterra wetsuit, I'm itching to try it out and do some swimming somewhere other than in a pool, now that the water temps are inching into the 50s I think. I noticed in the forum archives that people were doing OWSs last October at Sandy Point. Does anyone go someplace closer, like just swimming along the shore of the Potomac? I used to swim in the river when I was a kid (early 80s) but I'm thinking that may not be allowed anymore. I know there are some water-filled quarries in No. VA too that might work as well.

Just a heads up that the water temperature at Sandy Point this weekend was 44-45. Still a little too cold for me to get out there.

Agreed! I think most bodies of water are too cold at the moment. However Wave One has some new OWS happening at National Harbor in the near future. Watch for details as this will be a great way to get in an OWS close to home.

We should try to form a group for the open water swim. As soon as possible; may be by the end of April, we can try any place nearby or around Washington, DC.

I also need to get some open water swims in soon. I bought a new wetsuit which I need to try out before IM Brazil (which is fastly approaching).

If anyone wants to take a trip to Sandy Point in the near future, please let me know.

Also, please add me to any forums started regarding open water swim outings.

Thanks,

Tania.

When the intertubes stop conspiring against me I will post a new topic with details.

I'm doing open water swimming at lake anna again this weekend. Last weekend was nice with a full suit.

Email me and I'll put you on my distro.
