Club Championship Analysis
POSTED: 8/17/09 11:51 AM

Hello all,
A little analysis on the club championship data to help demystify it and to help with strategy for next year.
The club scoring is here:

Number of participants by club
Annapolis Triathlon Club: 5, Baltimore Area Tri: 5, DC Tri Club: 62, Mid Maryland: 4, MOCO Multisport: 1, PaxRiver Tri Club: 1, Penn State Tri: 1, Philly Tri Club: 5, T3: 2, Team Triumph: 3, Tri Velocity: 6
Obviously with those numbers we crushed it. This turned out to be a lot easier than last year at NJ, when clubs seemed to gun for the championship more.

Patrick S took 10 points for the top male finisher. We SWEPT the female top finishers, with 10, 9, and 8 points respectively going to Hilary C, Melissa T, and Jennifer L. Pretty much across the board, our females destroyed all comers and are likely the legion of doom for any and all clubs that seek to challenge us in the future. Gotta love DC…

As you look at the results, you may be surprised that “I / he / she Scored Points!” This is due to the fact that points are calculated by Only those participants who are in the club competition. Ex. Christian was 11th in his AG, therefore at the race we thought “He didn’t score.” But within the club competition, he was 3rd in M25-29 AG, and scored 4 points.
Also Clydesdales and Athena’s were included in their AG’s for scoring. Not sure if this is an every year thing or just this year for this race. Ex. TJ (Tom C) raced Clydesdale but for points he was 5th in the M40-44 AG and scored 2 points.

A conclusion to draw here is that the bar for scoring (5th place) in the club competition is lower than you might expect. For review, the points for place are: 1st: 6 pts, 2d: 5 pts, 3d: 4 pts, 4th: 3 pts, 5th: 2 pts. Here are the times which scored 2 points for each age group (some AG’s did not have enough participants therefore the time scored higher). If you / our club / another club can beat this time in this AG, it would score points. Times are hours and minutes only – left out seconds.
M Overall: 2:16 (3rd place - scored 8 pts), F Overall: 2:31 (3rd place - scored 8 pts), F20-24: 3:20, F25-29: 2:36, F30-34: 2:40 (the actual 5th place person got 2:58), F35-39: 3:30, F40-44: 3:12, F 45-49: 4:06 (only 2 participants), F50-54:4:00 (only 2 participants), F60-64: 2:41 (1 participant), M19under: 2:19 (the Penn state guy), M20-24: 3:29 (1 participant), M25-29: 2:30, M30-34 2:35, M35-39: 2:38 (the actual 5th place person got 2:39), M40-44: 2:49, M45-49: 3:23

Note there seems to be typos/mistakes: F30-34 doesn’t seem to have scorers for 6, 5 pts, therefore the top person only scored 4 points and the 5th place person did not score. Also in the M35-39 AG, and there is no 4 point scorer. Therefore the 2 points went to the 4th place finisher, leaving the 5th place finisher (ie Me) not scoring. Will I ever score?? :P.

Congrats Guys - One for The Thumb

Daniel that would classify you as "the Man"!
You scored as many points for us as Nathan who did a 2:17 (1st in 25-29) :)
Congrats guys
Which again emphasizes a strategic element that our diversity across all age groups gives us a huge scoring advantage. The more the better.
So bring your buddies next time!
