I'll probably kick myself for signing up for this ULTRA, but it's time based, not mile based. It will be my first Ultra. How many miles can I run/jog/walk/hop in 8 hours? I have no idea what to expect.
The race is part of a series. It's at Lake Anna. Has anyone signed up? I'm planning on setting up a tent in the transition area.
Man I wish I was in shape for this one. I don't know how I would do. I will have to leave this one to you Lisa, but I am putting it on my calendar for next year. Good luck and kick butt.
You can't get off that easy. There's a 12- and 24-hour in September and May. February is a just a build. Didn't you read the article on ICY 8? http://www.examiner.com/x-19867-DC-Triathlon-Examiner~y2009m12d30-Do-Gun-Rights-and-New-Years-resolutions-go-together

So the course consists of loops, letting you fill up with drink or food after each loop? Interesting. This is kind of like the Goofy marathon and halfathon brought local.
I was tempted, then I remembered that I'm lazy.
2 loops: 4.7 or 8.0 miles - Runners can run on either loop or a combination of both
The idea behind using short loops for an Ultra Time Trial is to keep track of runners and their mileage. At the checkpoint, you can grab food, change clothes, etc. There is no set mileage to finish in 8 hours. Whoever runs the most, wins.
Hence, is why I need the tent. I will stock up on my trusted Crustables, Dr. Pepper, Slim Jims, and heating pads and store them in the tent. It will eliminate my bad habit of carrying nutrition and forgetting to drink during a race. Hopefully, this will also eliminate the sight of dorky Ultra runners wearing Camel Baks. If I need to siesta, I'll crash at Camp Kilday. Who's in? Who has a tent to share?
Someone please talk me out of this ridiculously bad idea.
I think I might do this with the goal of being the first person to ever gain weight during a race.
Like my own personal doughnut run.
Think they would be pissed if I stopped after 3 laps?
Run Coke Run Doughnut Run Poptarts Run
Zina - DO IT!
It's a great event. I've done their 24 hour run a couple times and had a fun time.
Some people ran 1 or 2 loops then sat and ate the rest of the time. Do as much or as little as you want.
I've procured a sleeping bag.
Working on the tent.
Now all I need is for it to not snow like 4 more times before the race.
Jen- do I need to wear trail shoes for this?
Z, I may have an air mattress (self-inflating) you can borrow, too. I'll check when I get home tonight.
Zina - trail shoes are never a requirement for running trails.
Run what you're comfortable running in. Sometimes trail shoes are bulky, more rugged versions of a road shoe, and you lose that connection between your foot and the trail.
Here's a report from someone who ran it last year - http://ultrafaith.blogspot.com/2009/02/time.html
Just signed up. I have a 3-person tent that can be used to store food/sleep/change.
this looks like a lot of fun to do with a group. more the merrier?
Besides if it were reserved for just the cool people, then I couldn't come.
