Anyone interested in meeting at Sandy Point to do an open water swim on Monday morning?

Hey, keep me posted. My pool opens up this weekend with a 50m long course, but I would love to get out there for some swimming and a short bike ride to follow. Let me know what time you are thinking on Monday.

It's supposed to get up to 90 in Annapolis on Monday, so I'm thinking of getting there early - by 9 or maybe earlier. I'm a newbie though, so this is my first OWS. I'd be up for a ride after, but would be focusing on the swim. Let me know if you want to go :-)

Hey,

There is a bunch of us NTP'ers (don't have a head count, at least 6 or 7, could be more) heading out to Sandy Point on Monday for some self-directed OWS practice. We have a thread going on the "NTP-only" forum. I'm not organizing so I hope I'm not stepping out of line, but I'm sure there'd be no objection for a larger group. We are planning on meeting at Sandy Point South Beach at 9am. A few are already planning on a bike ride afterwards.

I'll be in for 8.30 start. I would like to swim for an hour and be back in Bethesda for a 10.30 ride.

For anyone who was planning on hooking up with the NTP group on Mem'l Day, looks like we will be at Sandy Point's East Beach and not at South Beach as I posted previously.

Okay, I'll be at Sandy Point East Beach tomorrow morning. Aiming to get there by 8:45am or so since my first time there and am not familiar w/the area. We'll need a wetsuit for the water, right? Jubran, Giovanni and Brian - see you there!

@Noelle - wetsuit depends entirely on the water temps and your comfort zone, I don't know if Sandy Point posts their temps somewhere. I'd bring it along if you think you might like to have it. You can always leave it in your car if it's too hot or you're looking for some practice without.

For those who have web access on the road, East Beach is by reservation only, so we're back to South Beach.

Sorry for the mix-up guys. When we arrived at the park we were told East Beach was closed unless you had reservations. I mistakenly took that to mean we couldn't access the beach itself. Luis G, by the time I read your post our group was already settled at South Beach. Diane, For some reason I missed your post altogether.

From what I could see East Beach was definitely the place to be, hardly anyone there at that hour. South Beach was already swarming with a mass of humanity but we got a good workout anyway. Hope you guys had a good swim too.

Jubran, hope you had a good swim yesterday! East Beach doesn't open (meaning, no lifeguard) till 10, but that just meant it was a nice quiet swim. Only about 5 or 6 of us in the morning. For next time, just park on the right and then walk over to East Beach. They don't like us leaving our stuff under the pavilion though or even on the grass. No biggie. For anyone reading, folks estimated that it was 300 meters around the loop of buoys. I'm definitely coming back soon!

Anyone swim without a wetsuit? Was the water temp high enough?

The water temp was perfect for a wetsuit but you could get by without one. I will be back there next weekend for sure.

I was getting a bit toasty in my full sleeve w/s. had to let in water several times to cool off.
