Anyone have a recommendation for a nice scenic 40-60 mile bike ride around an hour outside of DC, preferably with a nice lunch spot and some hills along the way?
The Blue Ridge Challenge is my favorite.
Ok and when Alejandro says my favorite...he's not giving you the full picture. Click on the link AND the map. It's a great ride but it is calld challenge for a reason. :-)
I plan on doing it a few times next season when I am up to it.
That's just because Alejandro is a glutton for punishment. :)
I though being a glutton for punishment was a requirement to be a DCTri member.
Since we are on this topic. Anyone wants to do The Blue Ridge Challenge next weekend (July 11 or 12). Bryan? Janice?
I like this one (http://www.bikepptc.org/system/files/Wild+Wonderful+Cue+Sheet+2006-10-14.pdf). Its about 71 mi. I skip the short bit in WV and make a right at mi 38 and pickup the cue sheet directions with mile 39.8 making the ride just under 70 miles. There are lots of places to stop along the way - gas stations, parks, and small town cafes. Also there are 4 good climbs along the way, not as long as Mt. Weather but steep.
You might try the Mt. Weather ride without the Mountain, putting together a country roads tour of your own, then eating in Marshall, VA, where the ride would start. Marshall's about 40 minutes from DC.
I could do July 11th. I have a party to go to that night, but we'd be riding early on Saturday anyway. July 12th is the training tri and I was going to volunteer for that.
Is there still any interest in doing the Mt. Weater BlueRidge Challenge on this coming weekend? (Saturday July 11th)
I'm out. Last minute work trip. Won't be back until Saturday at 11pm.
