I'll be there too. I'll be the one who melts when she touches the water.
When we went on Memorial Day the water was freezing (for me). I assume it will be much warmer now but should we bring a wetsuit just in case? Thanks.
Sure, bring it. If not too warm, you might decide to practice in it for an open-water race.
In! Leaving from the Hill. Have room for 1 more bike/person.
p.s. wear your wetsuit. there are jellyfish and sea monsters in the Bay.
I'm in. thanks simon!
Meet at the Courthouse plaza parking lot, one block from metro on Uhle street, here:
See you at 815 tomorrow morning
i'm in! Wetsuits? Really??? Sigh.
I'll come out for the swim and will follow it up with two slow loops of the bike course.
thanks ed, tammy, and simon!
We all gotta buy you a beer, strong gatorade or something else to say thanks for helping us today in the water. Great job. Every bit of improvement helps. Thanks
Hope everyone had fun and learned something today! Simon, thanks for organizing. Let me know if you are doing any more clinics and I'll be at your service. Ed, gracias for the gearing and cycling tips - I'll think of you everytime I attack a hill!
Simon, Tammy and Ed - my thanks also for organizing and the swimming tips. Only something this fabulous would get me into open water after 3+ years.
that was a very good ride today of the annapolis course. great conditions today for both the swim and the bike.
very fast and only slightly hilly course. looks like i might have to do that annapolis triathlon one of these years.
good choice of post workout food/beer spot.
Since the NTP July 11th OWS is also at Sandy Point, I was wondering if any of you who went this last weekend can tell me if a wetsuit is needed. Not too worried about the temperature as much as the jelly fish. Thanks!
I went on Friday and didn't even know there was a chance of jellyfish being in the area - no problems here though. I did wear a wetsuit, but just to get used to it.
Thank god you didn't ask this question a few days ago, it might have affected my trip decision... Really was a beautiful swim though.
Never heard of jellyfish at Sandy Pt, as opposed to at Eagleman/Chesapeakeman from spring to autumn. Wetsuit actually was kind of helpful this past Sunday, due to cloudy, cooler weather. Not strictly necessary tho.
I swam without a wetsuit and was fine.
I go to Sandy Point literally once a week. The jellyfish problem were quite prevalent last year but have not seen any this year. Even with the wetsuit I was stung every time that I got in the water for an extended amount of time.
The problem manifest itself when the water temp gets warmer. The water temp this year has been very comfortable. They might return later in the summer if the water temp increases. As of right now, there is nothing for you to worry about on that front.
here's the official real-time Chesapeake Bay Sea Nettle Map
Wow, thanks, hadn't realized this was such a nettlesome issue there.
