Woo Hoo! Can't wait for the race!! 7:00 am start time for me. Would I be crazy to drive to one of the potomac park parking lots that morning, at around 4:30 am? I live in Rosslyn and could walk over but that might take 40 min. and the shuttle idea sounds like a real pain in butt.

Anyone know how many people are registered for the races, sprint and Olympic?

Last I heard, the races would be capped at 2,500-3,000 although I do not have any official confirmation on those numbers...

I just received word from the event organizers that there are 206 DC Tri members registered to race this weekend. Good luck to all. I will be there cheering you on.

In for the last wave, 7:10am. Hurry up and wait! Don't intend to be last out of the water though. My bib # is 30xx, not that that has too much bearing on the number of entrants.

Best of luck to all.

From the National Weather Service:

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96.

Yay. . . . um. . . .

I am getting flashbacks of Nations Triathlon cerca 2008 when the temp was 97 and it felt like it was well over 100! Lots of hydration party people...lots! I heard some nastey rumor today that the Potomac water temp was up over 80 degrees. Is this preposterous claim true?

Also yes the 5:40 time is true, spring starts at 5:30am!

The current forecast at the Weather Channel is a high of 99F on Sunday, and sunny skies.

Yes, that could be brutal, BUT we'll get a break because this race starts so early. The course closes at 11 am and mostly people will be done well before that point. The sprint racers will be done by mid-morning. It'll still be hot at that hour but not quite 99F hot. Just looking at the hourly forecast for tomorrow, the temperatures at 7 am will be 12F lower than the high for the day. So temps at race time will still be in the mid to upper 80s but most people won't be facing 90+ temps while racing.

Now if you decide to hang out and enjoy the post-race festivities and forget to put on sunscreen, well, that's a different matter altogether.

Or flashbacks from Columbia 2003, when the heat made most everyone walk the course. (Wait, was that EagleMan 2010??)

Wow, I just realized that with a 5:45am start time, I'll be done sometime between 7 and 7:15am. That's so early, I wonder if the food will be breakfast food and coffee or your typical pizza, burgers and hot dogs?

Will there be a club post race party? I'll have to remember to bring my DC Tri hat since it's the only club gear I have so far.
