I am looking to put together a ride on Friday. Anyone interested?
no guarantees - have tentative plans to do an "easy" brick (~30 mile ride and 2-3 mile jog) with a friend who's just getting back into the swing.
what did you have in mind? (time, place, distance)...
keep me posted.
I was thinking 35-40 miles. I think am on Friday would be best. Cooler and less people out. As for location that is up in the air. I am up for anywhere, any preference?
cool. that's what I had in mind, too. And I prefer morning (on the early side) myself... granted my friend is not exactly a morning person.
the routes I suggested were: (1) leaving from my place to hit the mt. vernon trail across the bridge and do a few hains point loops (not exciting, but I've been fortunate to not have to train at hp at all yet this season); (2) I'd roll from my place on the Mt. Vernon and connect up with 4 Mile run into Shirlington to meet my friend (drop off my running shoes) then continue on W&OD into Vienna and back -- that way he'd get 30 and I'd get 40.
at this point, we're planning on a ride/run but I'm waiting for him to give me a time (in an ideal world, I'd like to be riding at/before 8 to beat the heat and any crowds...).
what do you think?
if he bails I'd be up for other suggestions (keeping in mind I'm doing River Road on Sunday).
Either one sounds good. I live in alexandria. We could leave by your place either way. I need to start pushing my milage and a 40 would be great. I keep doing 25-30's with a 3-4 mile run. my cell is 860-4285437. GIve a buzz. Tonight I am running with Pacers at 7.
A few of us NTP types are planning to meet up at Rock Creek Park Friday AM (9ish at Peirce Mill lot) to ride out Beach Dr - something like http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/dc/washington/1115567567
Basically just get on Beach Dr until it ends (there's a little park with bathrooms and water fountains at the end/turn around point). Should be ~25 miles, but we can always add to it and/or throw in some hills. Or if people are up for it we can follow the ride with either a quick run through the park or a trip down to the Hains Point pool (assuming it's open?). Or we can go have brunch and mimosas :)
anyone else interested?
Rock Creek is out for me b/c of logistics - but hope you all have a great ride!
Ducke, let me know what you decide to do - since we're both in Alexandria. I'd love the company for a longer ride and if you want to do a short jog afterwards, that'd be great.
As for Hains pool - since I just happened to call the other day: it's open M-F from 1-7 (closed Wed) and weekends 12-6. I don't know if it has holiday hours. Another tid bit that didn't please me, if you're not a DC resident you have to get a guest pass in advance -- they don't sell them at the pool. www.dpr.dc.gov
anyone want to do the sat ride portion, ie through gtown up to echo glen an then some and just make it a 40-50 miler or something?
i don't know the exact route but if you guys want to do it i can follow say around 730am or something?
I would be up for about 40 miler with a run after.
I am not in Alexandria - but I travel well :)
really - I am up for anything - just want to get out and ride.
i'm in alexandria too, i'm lookng to go moderate to easy pace.. so as long as we are going 15-18mph on the flat sections i'm good.
i'm a bit hesitant to do the mt vernon trail bc of crowds and hains point might be closed due to fireworks.
ducke, becky, sacha, are you up for this what are your thoughts?
the hains pt pool the passes are $4 each or 130 for a season pass, you can pick them up at the dept of parks and rec in dc or the tacoma pool in dc.. its a hassle if you live in va.. another option is the alexandria old town pool 25 yards but its only $2 cash to get in something to consider.
Ok so I am thinking 8ish. Where do we all wanna meet. Sacha, Becky, justin? My cell is 8604285437
8am works for me. I am flexible with location.
wanna all meet by your house?
how can I argue with meeting at my own house? you make it pretty darn easy! Can move the time to 7:30. If not, no big deal! I'm good with 8.
I checked with my friend and he is game to ride - this is what we had planned: I ride on the Mt. Vernon trail til it picks up with 4 Mile Run (just before the airport) then swing into Shirlington to grab him (he's pretty much at the W&OD trail head) - but I will warn you there's a killer hill to get into his development... good training (ugh).
From there he was thinking: W&OD towards fairfax, then back down the custis trail, over to hains for some fast laps then back over 14th St. bridge to my place. 30 miles (for him; 40 for us) total.
I just read a few posts that say that Hains is closed. So we can put our heads together and decide what to do instead. Maybe W&OD into Vienna and back or longer on the Custis trail...
On the way back I will stop off at his place to run (I just dropped off my shoes) but I will be happy to guide you back to 4 Mile Run trail head so you can continue back to my place - which, I might add, is walking distance to the Old Town Pool (opens at noon. $2 to get in). So if you run when you get back to my pad (Glenn should know a few routes since he does the Pacers runs and they run around there), I'll meet you at the pool! I can show you where it is in the morning if you're not familiar. Or, if it's open I can direct you to a fabulous breakfast spot in Del Ray (Mancini's).
I'm at 1521 Oronoco Street, Alexandria. (off Rte. 1 or GW Parkway - depending on how you come in).
let me know what time to expect you.
So ladies & Gents! But I need to back out for tomorrow am.
Have a great ride.
sorry to hear sacha is out (especially since I thought got a response thta she was good with 7:30...hmm, maybe there's a way to erase posts).
justin, glenn - if you're online, let me know when you'll be by (7:30 or 8).
Its gotta be 8 I need time to recover. We ran 9,1 miles tonight.
I am smoked. But i will get there tomorrow. Justin I hope you in too. Becky. don't forget to tell justin where you live.
see you guys at 8am tomorrow.
