La Vuelta a Puerto Rico Tires
POSTED: 12/14/11 9:28 AM

I know there are a bunch of you out there that have ridden La Vuelta. Do any of you have tire advice? The race organizers keep pushing the 25mm tires. Is that really necessary? Right now I'm planning on using my 23mm gatorskins.
thanks,
John

I've done 2 Vueltas (close to 800 mi) and I've never flatted. Both times, I've used brand new Michelin Pro Race 3 23mm, but I made sure to break them in for about 100 miles. FWIW, a friend flatted 3 times in the 1st 90 mi last year, but he had tires with about 800 mi. However, I weight in at 140ish and he has a good 80+ on me. I say bring whatever tires you feel comfortable, but make sure they are NEW!!!

Good luck in PR. It is a well organized ride. Also, look at the nice ocean view in the 1st long climb. If you have any other ?'s, feel free to contact me.

Jorlie
