Eagleman course ride v.2 (5/24/09)
POSTED: 5/14/09 9:31 AM

After the great time battling gale force winds and wombat-itis, a few of us brave (translation: crazy) souls have decided to try to get another pre-EM brick in at the course site.

At the very least, Emily and I are planning to be there. We hope to roll out at 8am, matching if not surpassing our pace from last weekend (~17.2mph) followed by a couple mile run.

FYI: that's Memorial Day weekend. I hope that Sunday won't be a crazy-heavy traffic day (odds are defintely better than trying to make the trek out on Saturday or home Monday).

Hope to see you out there...leave your cue sheets at home and follow the big pink arrows on the pavement! :-)

Count me in for both the ride and brick.
3rd pre-race ride's a charm.

Vertical Swimmer (please note that I did not call you the walking STD ;-P), I hope you'll recap the day's experience once again.
and yes, HIPsters, wombats, and whomever else welcome!

I'll come to serve as an anchor and provide the comic relief. Maybe I'll attempt the 56 mile course just so y'all can invent a new term, like wombattiness.

wombattiness...nice.
that has a nice ring to it! I hope T-man can work that into the post ride report. He's quite clever on the key board, so I have confidence he can!

With fearless leaders Em & Becky, plus the Wombat and the T-man how can I refuse?

The Freak may even bring out the cervelo for this one.

Anyone up for stopping at Sandy Point for a swim after the ride? I forgot to sign up for the Reston 2 mile swim and need to break in my new wetsuit.

Also, I volunteered to take some apprehensive NTPers for an OWS. Anyone interested in joining me? I am leaning toward Monday morning (so I can do the HIPster run on Saturday) at either Sandy Point or Lake Anna. Vertical swimmers are welcome to practice and horizontal swimmers can impart wisdom/calm the nerves of the NTPers.

if I owned a wet suit I would be absolutely game for either (Sunday post brick or Monday with NTPers)... but, alas, I just returned my rental to Conte's. Hope you find some takers! When the water temps warm up over the summer count me in for some OWS practice!

I'm gamed for OWS at Sandy Point after the ride.

I have to work 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM on Memorial Day/Monday ... otherwise my presence in the open water would really give the NTPers something to remember by :)

What does "verticle swimming" mean? is that some sort of weird double entendre? or euphamism for a guy being excited in teh swim?

Vertical swimming:
There are certains things in life that one must see for oneself. There are certain things in life that words cannot describe. And, there are certain things in life that mankind cannot comprehend unless mankind is there to witness it first hand :)

Count me in as "very likely" and I may even join you for a swim afterwards. I'm assuming you're all rolling out from the transition area? Is anyone coming from the Silver Spring area who wants to car pool?

Tammy I'll join you for the swim on Monday morning depending on what time you start. I left my towel the last time I was there and hope it's around and I can get it back.
I can't make it for the swim after our Sunday ride.
Let me know either here or email me: eajacobs15 at yahoo dot com

thanks
Em

You obviously haven't been reading Tuan's race reports if you don't get "vertical swimmer" (and no it has nothing to do with being 'excited' in the water). :)

I'd recommend reading the race reports. They actually are quite entertaining and full of self-deprecating humor (including the "vertical swimmer" description).

Hello... thought I'd do another posting to remind folks about the ride on Sunday (I've noticed that if there's no activity in a string it won't show up on the web main page).

Looks like so far 5 or 6 are in for a ride Sunday.

I suspect Em, The Freak, T-man and I will be shooting for a similar or better speed than the last time (weather permitting), which was about 17.2. We hope to roll out of the lot at 8am.

Not sure what the wombat has up her sleeve...

Hope to see you out there. Don't forget running gear if you're game for a post-ride run. Don't forget swimming gear if you're planning to stop off at Sandy Point to swim on the way home (to take some lessons in the art of vertical swimming from the Tuan-man).

I'll come out and do the 37 mile course, hopefully a bit faster than last time and without getting lost. Simple goals since it's only my third ride of the year! Will skip the run but planning to stop at Sandy Point for a quick dip after the ride.

See you Sunday!

I must say, I can't wait to put faces to these (nick)names. Especially Tuan, who consistently makes me laugh coffee out my nose with his hilarious recaps/reports.

All - I hope to make it but may not - allergies are out of control. If I can get my swollen eyes to stay open, I'll say screw breathing through my nose and spike my gatorade with benadryl.
