Good luck to all. This year, I'll be volunteering at the finish line. Free hugs and kisses too! Getting my rain boots and raincoat ready!

Hope the water quality and quantity allows for a safe swim. Had a great time last year and looking forward to the bike course.

Will be directing traffic on the bike course with a bullhorn, after the Civil War Century on Saturday, and tonight's packet stuffing event, and before the post-race party. Good luck to all the goal event racers!

Good times (#76)!

I’ll be at the ACHIEVE booth Sat (10-2pm) where they’re auctioning off 2 Giant road bikes—one male (Defy) and female (Avail). $25/ticket or 5 tickets for $100. Both raffles are limited to 250 entrants. Respectable odds for a great cause! ~Jess

Bummed that the swim has been cancelled! I've really grown to love the swim leg and was starting to psych myself up for another dip in the Potomac.

COURSE UPDATE
Due to the recent storms, city officials and event organizers have canceled the swim. Flooding and fast moving currents have created hazardous conditions for swimmers, so this year’s race will be a 40K bike and 10K run. The race will begin at 7:00 am following the same time trial starting procedure. Check your Athlete Service Platform for your Start Group # (which is the same as your Swim Group #). However instead athletes will now head directly into the transition area, grab their bikes and head out on a 40K bike followed by a 10K run.

strange that they didn't turn the cancelled swim into a 5k and turn the entire thing into a normal duathlon. oh well have fun folks

So much for all that training for a PR attempt! Blurgh.

I know this is all for safety reasons, but I really wanted to swim in the Po again!

Whine. Whine. Whine. I'm almost done.

Whine.

I might have to add Giant Acorn since Myrtle isn't a true Oly.

I'm bummed about the swim too. I'll just have to put all the energy that I'll save from skipping the swim into a faster bike split. I just hope that I don't go so hard on the bike that I'm worn out before the run even begins. I know, pacing, pacing, pacing, but I'm going to be riding angry.

I know that canceling the swim is the correct decision. But it doesn't mean that I'm happy about it. Why couldn't (Hurricane) Lee go away sooner?

Well, for me, cancelling the swim likely means that I will actually PLACE higher... but it also means it's a) not a triathlon, and b) not a PR attempt. I will get over it. I will. Just not right this second. :)

Well, veterans, what advice would you give to newbies on adjusting to a bike and run, pacing and strategy-wise?

As much as I'm not a swimmer, I will kind of miss my annual dip in the Potomac. I'm still in for a brick with 5000 people. That's going to be an insane bike course!

abbyjs, I am in the same boat as you. I was shooting for a PB here, but now I figure I have a shot a placing pretty high, as it is the swim that always slows me down. Heck maybe I can even grab one of those cool looking trophies :)
