I actually survived the whole thing this week! No dropped chains, no blown out tires, no getting lost! A couple more of these trips and I'll be all set for Wisconsin.
I gave Sugarloaf 20 of the best minutes my life today. It was a bit emotional but I'm in a better place now.
Who gets the polka dot jersey?
Even though we will be lacking the glamour of Vietnamese royalty this weekend, is anyone else up for a 70/80 mile ride this Sunday? I'm useless on the routes, but happy to follow - or lead if pointed in the right direction!
A few of us that are training for the Cozumel IM are doing 100+ this Sunday. Here are the details. Join us if you can.
Date: Sunday August 1
Meeting time: 6:15AM
Meeting place: Starbuck in Courthouse across from Whole Foods in Arlington VA
Distance: 100+ miles (we will leave from Arlington)
We will likely stop in H. Ferry for lunch.
Feel free to invite others!
If you need to reach me, here is my number 703-786-1270
See you Sunday.
Last week I got dropped like a bad habit from the main group in the first mile. I thought biking 18-20 mph for the first 15 miles I could catch up, but apparently not! Fortunately I didn't show up alone and it was nevertheless a nice ride despite never seeing the group again after that. Whatever the case, wondering if anyone is planning on going this week that might be a little slower (or a lot slower)?? I ride in the range of 16-20 on flats, significantly slower on those climbs, and obviously a lot faster on those downhills! I think in the end after last week I ended up around 15 mph average. Would be nice to not be alone in my first attempt at that distance!
I'll be there and I'm a LOT slower than the main group :) I average 15mph, there's usually at least 1 or 2 other people in that range also. See you sun :)
If you are looking for some slower rides, your in luck.
A few of us are heading out tomorrow at 4:30 out of Arlington for 50-60miles at a 15-20 pace
Also, I am trying to get a group together for 100+ on Sept 4- Labor Day weekend.
If your interested let me know....and send me your personal email so I can cc you
I'll try to be there this sunday too...knowing there are other slower riders will be motivation to wake up!
It should be a good ride this weekend. I am racing Steelman on Sunday, but will be back next weekend.
Kate's not going to be there this Sunday to pull me. Kevin won't be there to draft off of. Mike Coffmann will screw with me by riding far enough in front of me so that I can see him but just fast enough so that I can never suck on his wheels. I need me one of 'em back scratcher stick to reach out and bitch slap the shit out of him when he does that.
Why do you bike Nazis hate Vietnamese people so much?
So Tuan -- does this mean this is NOT a good time to tell you that I won't be there to pull your royal chariot next weekend either? THE MAN is sending me overseas for a week straight from Luray...
So, what IS the scoop for Sunday? Distance and pace? :)
I'm planning on attending. I have no idea what my pace will be because I have never done a group ride before, but I'll probably go with the so-called slow group and hope I don't get dropped :)
mwrightvt ... The distance this week is 70 miles but you can ride at whatever distance that you want. It looks like this weekend will have a 15-16 mph group and a 18 mph group. If you want to be part of the group, drop me an email at email@example.com and I'll add you to our distro list.
We clip at 7:00 AM.

At their current rapid rate of improvement, if they stay healthy, Pam, Sara, and Hillary may be the world's best cyclists by 2013.
They were solid today. They stayed with the lead pack for 3/4 of the way before the bike Nazis took over. It's only a matter of time before they close the gap.
What is the story on the Reston Century. I didn't get registered in time, so if I do it, I'll have to sign up on Sunday in person...
Is the group going to assemble and go at a specific time? The site really on says you have to start before 0900.
I want to do the ride, but don't want to go it alone necessarily.
We'll have a group there. You will see the same familar faces as the Sunday folks that hang around us. I'll send out details later on this week.
I think that you can still register online. You just won't get the wrist tag by mail like everyone else. You'll just pick it up at the start.
It is still open.
