DPR TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS AT THE TAKOMA AQUATIC CENTER
The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will temporarily close the Takoma Aquatic Center from June 21, 2010 to August 6, 2010, for much needed cleaning and improvements. The general scope includes an extensive rehabilitation effort that will restore the Takoma Aquatic Center male and female locker rooms, lobby area, site lighting, office area, multipurpose rooms, as well as the pool deck, shell, and markers in both the competitive and baby pools.
The Takoma pool is actually remaining open for the summer. On 6/18 DPR issued a press release basically saying that they changed their minds.
They are starting renovation on the office areas and fitness room areas as planned, but these renovations will not disrupt the pool schedule. The pool is now scheduled to be closed for renovations in that area starting September 15, 2010. I went to the pool on 6/21 and it was indeed still open.
So the good news is this pool is still available while we're in the peak of our training this summer. The bad news is the much-needed repairs will have to wait.
