Placid! - our official Placid coordination thread
POSTED: 7/17/13 1:10 PM

We have about 50 people racing in Placid next week and even more DC Tri sherpas, friends, and family who are coming up to support!

Getting us started with race week coordination:

- Subscribe to this thread: reply to this Forum thread and everyone can use this to communicate with each other as needed - now and on site.

- DC Tri and Snapple will have tents in “Tent City”, located above the special needs area along the bike and run courses. This will be our home base on race day. Let your peeps know.

- Swim Course Recon: some folks are planning to meet on Friday at 9:00 am for a short swim on the course. Meet at the south edge of the lake under the trees here: https://www.google.com/maps?q=44.283659,-73.981451. Thanks, Adam!

- Finish Line Fest: Come out to the finish line festival at the end of the day. Cheer your teammates and everyone else on as midnight approaches.

- Fan Gear: looks like we can still order “Go DC Tri” shirts in spot me yellow for our peeps and receive them in time for Placid. http://store.dctriclub.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=EP-Fan

Can’t wait to see everyone up there!!

Great. I'm going there to cheer and train. For those not racing, I'm looking for training buddies. My schedule:

Friday PM: 1-hour swim + 1-hour easy ride
Saturday: 6-hour bike + 45-min run (thinking about riding the IM course)
Sunday: orange speedo day
Monday: 2.5-hour run

misery loves company

I'm racing...but I'll be in Nat'l Capital YMCA tri team kit (where I got hooked on triathlon and my dedicated IM training buddy is also on that team so I figure I'd make it team of 2).

9am swim on Friday sounds good!

I'll be there and I should be easy to spot since I plan to be the first DC Tri person out of the water (due to my speed not the fact some kayak had to pull me out).

In, and we have like 8 people from our MoCo group that will be there as well. We're planning on doing some workouts in the few days leading up to the race, and I'm sure will be glad to get together before and after the race.

My family will be there to cheer and celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary (race day)! We may have a casual bbq at their rental house to celebrate their anniversary and all the new Ironmen.

And as an fyi - my dad has Alzheimer's and his verbal filter is lacking. Please know if he says or does anything inappropriate, it's not the real Chuck.

If you think you are in last place, look over your shoulder.

I'm right behind you and fading fast.

Train, vol, cheer, tour.

And we still have space available at our Saranac Lake lodging!

And for friends & recuperating IMers, a pal from the area sends this list of local fun stuff:

Check out the Adirondack Mountain Club for activitieshttp://www.adk.org/ If you're into rock climbing, Alpine Adventures in Keene leads guided expeditions, one-on-one or very small groups. EMS in LP also leads climbs, paddles, hikes. http://www.ems.com/shop/index.jsp?kw=storeDetail&f=13.
History: John Brown farm NYS historic site http://nysparks.com/historic-sites/29/details.aspx in LP; Robert Louis Stevenson cottage in SL. Check outhttp://www.aarch.org/ for historical tours (they might not post next summer's schedule until spring). The Wild Center (Museum of Natural History of the Adks) in Tupper Lake is great, but a good 45 min. from LP, and Adirondack Museum in Blue Mt. Lake is also fabulous, but is about an hour or more away.
Lake Placid Brewery has great brew and decent food: http://www.ubuale.com/. Caribbean Cowboy, I hear is still good: http://www.lakeplacidmenus.com/caribbean_cowboy_menu.pdf

I'm volunteering at run aid station 2 from 10-3 and will be cheering a little louder for the DC Tri folks coming through.

I'd like to swim with the group Friday and plan to do one loop of the bike course Saturday morning and would be interested in starting with the group and seeing how long I can hang on.

In! Wed - Wed. Are people wearing their kits for the whole race? i.e. not changing into cleaner and less smelly clothes for the run?

In for my 3rd time at Lake Placid!

FYI for those interested in how the new swim start will work, I found this description from an Ironman CdA race report:

> There were large placards grouping us by estimated times.
> Pros went first.
> Then the times were 1:00-1:15, 1:15-1:30, 1:30-1:45, 1:45-2:00, and 2:00-2:20.

No details on how early people start lining up.

Alejandro - I'll be joining you for pretty much all of those workouts!

For anyone who is interested, I'll be bringing the fan shirts and some other select DC Tri apparel should any of your fans want to purchase club gear at our tent.

Also - for anyone who purchased LG gear for Placid, items were shipped from LG to our distributor yesterday. We're still on track to get you your items in time for the race.

Ryan
