Don't know whether this is general knowledge or maybe I'm the just last to know.
Chinquapin is closing for at least five or six months beginning in May 2013 for mechanical system repairs. During the summer, all the aquatic programs will be moved to the three outdoor pools. Starting next Fall until the eventual completion, Alexandria residents are just SOL.
BTW, if you ever happen to set a PR at Chinquapin, it doesn't count. The pool is short several centimeters. They picked a crappy contractor in 1985 when it was built.
Actually, Chinq did that on purpose so the pool would be used for recreational use only. The city despearately needs an indoor competition pool though.
The latest long set of renovations are done. Tho the lanes looks the same. The locker rooms are new, and I heard the HVAC system was redone.
Even better, there's talk of another renovation to add championship, 50-meter lanes.
Add'l update: initially when they opened back up, they made you get a locker key from the front desk. Now you can put your two quarters directly into the lockers.
This is important: bring your own 50 cents, they don't always have change (doh!).
