Lots (and lots!) of us are running the Rock N Roll Half Marathon on Saturday, March 16 (several doing the full, too, I'm sure).
Anyone interested in a course preview on Sunday, March 3? I would normally be running the RCP run that day, but I will run the course that day instead.
If we get enough people, we could have multiple pace groups.
Here is the course map:
Let me know if you are interested in joining! I'm planning to run it easy, which for me would be about a 9:00min/mile pace.
I'm interested in joining.
I'm interested (also running the half). Might be out of town that day, but I'll run it if I'm not!
I'm very interested, and 9:00min/miles sound great
Given that the start and finish are in different places, I'm thinking about logistics... I have a car... anyone else?
I am in, although I will probably only be able to maintain 9 min miles for the first 7-8 mi then I will probably slow down. I vote for starting at the crack of 10AM or later.
Sunday RCP runs are usually at 9... if we keep that time we can reasonably run and brunch. :)
With enough people, multiple pace groups would make sense. For a last long run before the race, it doesn't make sense to blow it out!
I am out on orders of my PT.
How about some logistics?
If there is another person with a car, this would be pretty easy... We can drive to RFK and park one car, then pile into another and drive to Freedom Plaza?
Meet at RFK at 8:30?
Who is in?
I can drive 4 to 5 people (self included).
Meeting at RFK at 8:30 on Sunday works for me.
Just to make sure I understand this, I don't have a car so it makes sense for me to just meet everyone at 8:50 at 14th and Constitution correct? Would love a ride back from RFK to civilization after the run though.
Oh and does anyone know a way to load that route into my Iphone? I can't maintain 9s for the full route and will probably average 9:30-10min mis after the first 7-8 mi.
Why even bother with the hassle of a car. Metro would be the easiest. Federal Triangle or Smithsonion and RFK to go home/brunch.
I have to be somewhere at 1, so I have to drive.
Johnson--send me an email so we can coordinate:
I wavered on this since my training pace is more like 9:15-9:30/mi but I'll give it a shot. I can always drop back or try to match with Mark. No car, so I'll just meet up with everyone at Freedom Plaza.
My husband Driss and I are on the fence about joining in on this, maybe will show up at 8:50 at Freedom Plaza. Abby or Mark or someone who will recognize each other could you email me a cell phone number so we could make sure to be able to find you? Not sure how long I will be able to keep up with you guys, but regardless it will be good practice for the race. firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks! Martha
Blast! I forgot the NTP Nutrition Clinic is also Sunday morning. I better go to that instead :( Have a great run!
If anyone else is wondering how to get the route onto your phone because you are worried about losing the pack. You need the map my run app on your phone and to sign up for a free mapmyrun account. Then got to mapmyrun.com and search for "2013 Rock n' Roll USA Half" Then select bookmark it, not send to phone. I couldn't get send to phone to work, but bookmarking it did, as long as you are logged into your phone and the website when you bookmark it. I hope that helps. If anyone has any idea for better apps that will do turn by turn, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.
A note on logistics!!
I'm so sorry, but I can't wait much after I finish running to drive people back. I have to be home by 11:45 so I can make my 1:00 PM appointment. If I'm dropping people back off at Freedom Plaza, I need to take off at 11:25. I don't mean to be rude! #obligations
So... Johnson and I will meet at RFK at 8:30, where I will park my car, and he will drive the two of us over to Freedom Plaza where we will meet you all at 8:55. I'm happy to run a tad slower for the first mile or two and be social (and, if you decide to skip the clinic, I can talk about nutrition while we are running).
I will probably get done running in about 2 hours, give or take a few minutes. I'm happy to wait until 11:25 for people, and then I will have to depart.
The Armory Metro is right there, so just in case, bring your metro card!!
Mark: I'm just going to print it on paper. I've done the race twice, and the only part that changed is at the beginning, so if anyone knows the course, it's all the same from Columbia Heights on down to RFK.
I'm planning to join for this. Great idea, Abby.
