Washington-Lee Swimmers?
POSTED: 10/14/09 9:41 AM

Has anyone been swimming at the spanking new W-L HS pool? I'm going there after work today to swim and scope it out. With the open-air pools now closed, maybe the NOVA folks could start a regular swim there for the autumn and winter, if they haven't already.

Yeah it's a great improvement over the old pool - I've been 3 or 4, generally when I've been it's been in the evening and water aerobics was going on so there have been 6 lap lanes open (a great improvement over when it used to go down to 4). When I was over there on Monday they had all (10 I believe) lanes open. I personally prefer the less crowded Yorktown. I was actually talking to one of the guards at Yorktown and supposedly there going to have a new pool over there by 2012.

Here's the layout, the bulkhead is actually moved farther to the left (upside down) I believe.

There were nine open lanes tonight, 1-2 swimmers to a lane. Nice to see a sparkling new facility compared to the old rust bucket it replaced. Still has that big kiddie pool and community feel to the place.

Overall it is an fine experience - the pool feels...fast. Good place for us to congregate (when we get tired of empty 6 lane 25 meter indoor pools steps from our condo and want some company other than one lifeguard..and an empty pool). You definitely pay for it - $10 per visit if you aren't Arlington resident (passes make it a little less - a little). At least 3 per lane the 3 times I've been there. Hope I have your luck next time Ed. Let's talk - in February.

Well- it beats Chinquapin in Alexandria when on Tues and Thurs the water aerobics take up 3 lanes (using only 1/2 of each lane - waste products!) and then there is 1 lap lane open. I had 10 people in my lane on a Tues - only 3 of which could actually swim! I'd say more, but I would be accused of being insensitive...
