Looking for a timed open-water swim event? Want to make a difference in the lives of children living with HIV/AIDS? This is the opportunity for you!
The District of Columbia Aquatics Club (DCAC) will sponsor the 18th annual Maryland Swim for Life on July 11th in Chestertown, Maryland. Swim for Life is an open water swim competition that is meant to be a fundraising event to benefit AIDS, women’s health and the community, as well as a celebration of the environment. DCAC welcomes all athletes from across the Mid-Atlantic region at this year’s event.
The event offers 1,2,3,4 & 5-mile open-water swim options, a great training opportunity for all triathletes looking for additional open-water experience!
All you have to do is raise $100 on or before 7/11/09, in order to participate! T-Shirt, food, & refreshments are all provided for athletes. Contributions are fully tax-deductible. For more information please visit:
Online registration closes at midnight on 7/8/09, but on-site registration is available the day of the event.
Feel free to contact me directly with any questions!
I registered for the swim and will be doing 3 miles. If anyone else is doing the swim and wants to join Team Wombats, please do so!
I think I'm going to do this! Can I join Team Wombat?
I'm an NTP'er, decent swimmer and thinking of doing 2 miles.
Just to throw this out there - wetsuits *are* allowed if that is your preference. The water temperature has been in the 70's the past couple of years but there are no restrictions on wetsuit usage.
I'm also aiming for 3-4 miles... depending on how I feel the morning of the event!
Of course you can join Team Wombats! When you register you'll have the option to join an existing team. My NTP mentee is doing the one mile race. The more Wombats the merrier!
cool! Who doesn't love a wombat!
Carpool anyone? Candace and I are leaving the Shirlington/Quaker Lane & 395 area around 5:15 am. (Google maps clocks it as a 1:45 commute, so we rounded it up to two hours to account for traffic/getting lost/etc.) We are taking our transition gear (sans bikes) to practice transitions after the swim.
Interesting race given all the mileage options.
And because it's in a shallow river.
Also, you swim against the current going out, for half the distance, then glide with it coming back.
Team Wombats. Send me your email addresses and I will pass on pictures. Tammy, thanks for your fearless leadership - it was a great day! Andrea

Thanks for a great day! My email is:
Wahoo Go Team Wombat!!
Great fun and look forward to doing it next year!
Great meeting both Tammy and Candice!
The event had an awesome turnout this year!
And how about the challenging current for the return swim?! I'd see the buoy, swim for 5 minutes, look up again - and it'd appear perhaps 20 feet closer! Crazy, but definitely fun!
I'll definitely be swimming this event next year.
