In 2012 my earliest tri will be a Sprint in mid-April. What should I be doing this Winter, aside from the obvious maintenance stuff and some strength training?
- I want to start some track work but maybe it's too early for speed work?
- Twice a week 1 hr. rides with no particular goal in mind?
- Swim often!
- I know, I need a coach. I just can't afford more than $100 a month for it like most charge.
Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well, it depends. What are your overall goals for your 2012 racing? How does the first race fit in with the rest of your schedule? What are your goals for that race? You'll need to sit down and work out your specific goals before you can answer the questions about what workouts you should be doing.
For self-coaching I'd recommend you pick up the latest edition of Friel's The Triathlete's Training Bible. It's the go-to book for most folks. He has a good follow-up that was published this year, Your Best Triathlon, which has a lot of good information about testing, more specific training, etc.
Thanks, I'll check out the book(s)!
