Are there any 70.3 races that you recommend as a first-time Half? I was thinking about Beach 2 Battleship since it's flat and late in the season. Thanks!

I defintely set myself up for success by choosing the Delaware DiamondMan Triathlon as my first half. Flat, late (but not too late) in the season, less than 2 hours away.

I was able to drive out and pre-ride the bike course, too, which totally built my confidence. It was small and well-run, and I highly recommend it.

The only drawback is that it will likely be on the same day as Nations.

Any more word on the 70.3 at National Harbor next year?

I heart Augusta 70.3. Down river swim, enough said.

I heart Augusta 70.3 as well. You swim with the current, it's a relatively flat bike course (with a couple of climbs) and the run is winding through the downtown with decent spectator coverage.

Kinetic is also a very good race, but a fairly hilly run adds a bit of challenge. It's also pretty early in the season, so you have to be ready to start ramping up when it's cold outside.

Thanks for the great suggestions! Since I can't make the race planning session--do you put your hardest/longest race in the middle or end of a season?
