Hello! I'm doing IM Louisville at the end of August 2013 and am looking for some local(ish) bike races for June and July to get some of my long rides in. Last year I was out on the W+OD every weekend and it started to drive me bonkers. Does anyone know of any good races or resources that will have this info? Or other good local bike routes for those long rides? Thanks!
Do the Total 200's 200k on July 6: http://www.total200.com. I'll be there, too. :)
Brilliant - done! Thanks!
Looking for more if anyone has thoughts! :)
I'm doing 6 pillars. Not the best race to prep for Lake Placid. But for those doing Eagleman - y'all need to do this ride, since one of the options is the Eagleman course itself!
These sites list bike rides and bike races:
Also Spokes Magazine has a schedule:
Columbia BricNic Underground Century (May 11?): It's local. It's frree. 4 loops, 26 miles per loop, of the Columbia Tri course, followed by free food. Well, 4 loops in theory because every freaken year people stop at loop 3 and claim PMS. Maybe 2013 will be different. Info will be on this forum in the spring. The guy that organizes it is god's gift to humanity.
PeasantMan Century (May 4) - It's local. It's free, unless you want to eat the bbq afterward, then it's $5. It will on the Kinetic HIM course. The ride will be between 26-112 miles. Info will be on this forum in the spring. The guy that organizes it is god's gift to humanity.
Ironman Vietnam! It's local. It's free. It's 4 weeks before IMLou. It has enough hills, heat, and miles (117 miles) to properly train you for IMLou. Info will be on this forum in the spring. The guy that organizes it is god's gift to humanity.
Humm, I'm beginning to think Tuan may have a G-d complex.
Columbia brick-Nic is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th, 3 weeks before the Columbia Triathlon.
Meghann, are you looking for bike rides or bike races as you said in your post? There's a fairly big difference.
Keep in mind that sometime around March, there will be weekly Sat rides led by Travis and weekly Sunday rides led by the vertical swimmer geared towards IM Sweden.
To add to the suggestions here, the Garrett County Gran Fondo is a fantastic ride.
Bike VA is another one to keep on the radar.
Thanks for all the great info! Looking forward to meeting whoever organizes all of those races, he sounds really awesome.
The reason I said bike races is because I thought that it would push me and get me off the usual trails which got a bit boring (totally mind numbing) last year. But also, I'm a bit scared of the group rides - I'm not very experienced or fast, and expect I'd either get left behind or really annoy people :)
There are lots of folks doing IM Lake Placid this year (7/28), including a decent sized group that rides out of Montgomery County. We'll be doing group rides and there will be a range of abilities in the group. I'm sure we'll be posting the rides here when training gets underway so look out for those. You can also check out the DC Tri Moco website http://dctrimoco.ning.com/. It's been a little quiet lately, but I'm sure things will pick up in the coming weeks. -Joyce
The Air Force Cycling Classic at Crystal City.
Don't do the W&OD so much; do the Sat/Sun group rides out of Georgetown.
