Bike Route Near Sandy Pointe State Park
POSTED: 6/06/11 1:29 PM

Hi all,

I'm headed to an open-water swim clinic this Saturday out at Sandy Pointe and want to get a ride in afterwards as well. Can anyone suggest a bike route out there? Looking for an easy paced 2-hr ride.

Thanks much.
Tom

There is a bike route along rte. 179 (St. Margaret's) which leads to the Severn River Bridge right by the Naval Academy. Once you are there you will head north on rte 450 and make a left just before rte. 50. This will lead you to the B&A Trail.

Email me offline and I can send you some information.

Here's a route a group of us did after the last swim clinic:

Also, here is the cue sheet from Peasantman last year:

You definitely want to stay off of route 2 north of rte 50. There is way too much traffic on that section. Just south of rte. 50 on route 2 is the B&A Trail. It's the last left before heading under rte. 50. The trail is 14 miles long upto the BWI airport which has an 11 mile loop. Unfortunately, my job skills aren't good enough to set up a link for it.

Thanks Hugh, last weekend I ended up riding the B&A trail. It was great! Nice and smooth, not too crowded. I also found some info online about it:

Kevin - glad you got to connect with the B&A Trail. It goes all the way up to BWI and there is an 11-mile loop around the airport. Worth checking out.
