How was parking race morning?
Any strong recommendations or warnings on hotels?
I've done it the last couple of years. Overall, it's a well-run race and is a solid bargain. I don't know anything about the new bike course but it sounds like an improvement.
I've stayed at the Clarion both times. Walking distance to the start and free parking. It's an older hotel but charming.
There's a great place for feeding your face, I mean carb-loading, right on the riverfront called Oliverios.
I'd be doing this race a 3rd time in a row if I wasn't getting married the week before.
Any mountaineers in the group? I hadn't heard of it until now but I'm game. Right around the corner is the waterfront hotel. It's just a few years old and is pretty nice. Also up the street is Hotel Morgan (clarion mentioned above). I have some good celebration suggestions if you're interested in that too.
And speaking of celebrating... There's also a Dairy Queen about 3/4 of a mile from the race finish.
I'm doing it, Laurel and one of my coaching clients are all in.
Another vote for the Clarion, though the Waterfront hotel (race HQ) looked nice too. Alternatively, there are some chain hotels out by the football stadium/hospital area, on the other side of campus. Parking is easy -- parking structure next to transition.
Clarion Hotel Morgan Pros:
Jacuzzi bath tubs
Closer to downtown
Riverfront Hotel Pros:
Good food in hotel
Spa in hotel
Closer to race
The Waterfront Hotel was the "host" hotel when I did the race two years ago and they let guests come back and use the showers at their gym after the race since we were checking out the morning of the race and then driving home after. It was great to be clean and fresh on the ridge home. It is definitely a good race though...my particle board faux marbelized "Second Place" plaque says it all!!! :)
