It looks like my job is going to keep me near Tysons for the near future - any recommendations for swimming - masters ideally, but w/e - in the AM nearby? Thanks!
Check out http://www.pvmasters.org/clubs.htm for a list of programs. Eric Sorensen (email@example.com) runs a program geared towards triathletes at Providence Rec Center MWF 5:30-6:30 am during the winter ($60/month) and at Westwood CC (50m pool) during the summer. Machine Aquatics (http://www.machineaquatics.com/Machine_Masters/Machine_Masters_General_Information.htm) runs a program geared towards swimmers (all the strokes) at Oak Marr Rec Center MTWTF 5:00-6:30 AM ($115/for 3x week per month). There are also programs at Spring Hill Rec Center before 6:30 am (Sea Devils and Team Z) and at 6:30 am (http://www.pvmasters.org/~mash/). I swim with Eric during the summer and holidays and Machine during the winter since I come from a swimming background and like to mix in all the strokes. Two years ago I swam with Sea Devils but the program was too small so I switched over to Machine.
Closest masters options in Tysons:
Masters at Tysons Sport and Health: http://www.sportandhealth.com/clubshome/SportOverview.aspx?id=10206&clubId=562
Masters Aquatics at Spring Hill (MASH). Fun group. I built their page / logo and coined the motto (VA is for lovers, MASH is for swimming lovers) a few years back. http://www.pvmasters.org/~mash/index.htm
Providence and Oak Marr are nice places, but are not in Tysons - more relevant if they are on your commute path.
Thanks! That is great information, and I will definitely try to get to MASH.
