KILDAY, Lisa (USA)
Nice work out there Lisa, who-hoo!
Thanks for posting, Rachel - I couldn't figure out how to track. AWESOME JOB LISA!!! Let us know how it went!
Damn that's fast. It must be all those naked men in the water and in the transition area that she's been talking about :)
Nice job Lisa... Man you smoked it!!!!
Yeah Lisa, way to rock Roth!!!
Wow Lisa -- Awesome race!
Thanks! I just saw this. Great to have support from afar. Only 5-15 Americans racing out of a 3,100 person field. Amazing atmosphere and course. Crowds were about 150,000. Yes, 150,000! Germans love cyclists and triathletes. Plus, all of the shops are closed on Sunday in DE. The race had tv coverage (DE, IT, FR) and not just because of Chrissie Wellington. Her bike was 8 feet away from mine at racking. I bet you that she was excited about that!! This region of Bavaria just loves this race. Roth used to be Ironman Europe.
Swim was in a canal with good water quality and a lot wider than the C&O. Big ships go through this canal from the Rhine to the Mein. It was easy to sight because you could see the shore and bridges/turn arounds. Super smooth roads - not a single pothole or crack in the roads for 112 miles. 90-95% of the course was closed to traffic. You bike through 20 or so villages on each loop during the double loop course. Beer mile! Some hills, but nothing too long. 2 hills had 10-15,000 spectators. It was pretty intense. People jumped in front of my bike, ran behind me, and were screaming 20 different things in German on these hills. Wish I could embed a video.
Run was on crushed rock on the canal like C&O. One of the reasons why I chose Roth was because the marathon was mostly on this bike trail. Better for the legs. The run was a bit challenging for me, mentally because the canal went on forever. But a good crowd on the run. Excellent support. I saw my host family 3x during the run. Well organized (ahem, it's German). Roth was epic. You should do it!
I'll be BACK. ROTH 2011.
Man that sounds to awesome to be true. I can see why you are going to go back. Well I want to do an Ironman abroad when I get back from deployment, so I am going to have to put a check mark in that one for the decision.
What does a Roth tattoo look like? ;)
those Euros like a "Quelle Challenge Roth' tramp stamp
That is awesome Lisa!
