I've signed up for San Juan's Half in March 2011. Anyone else? I just joined DC Tri so haven't meant any of you YET. I really would love to have a buddy(ies) to train alongside.
Let me know if you're going to San Juan or if you simply want to train for a HIM over the Winter with me (at least sometimes :)! Feel free to e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or on this post.
I'm planning on HIM in New Orleans in April so let me know what kind of plan you have for training. I have a feeling it's going to be another long and cold winter so the more people to train with the better!

I'm considering this race because it takes place *on* my birthday. And who doesn't want to go on spring break?
What is your travel plan?
There is a good 6 or 7 of us seriously contemplating this race.
Base on a survey this weekend I think is close to 10 club members heading down there. I am in as is my local race as I was born in SJ and is also my birthday on race day
Since I am from there a few recommendations.
Try to stay in 1 of the host hotels as parking for race day might be an issue if you plan to rent car.
Use tri bike transport to ship your bike it will arrive safely.
As for the course the bike is going to be mostly flat with a tail wind the first 28 miles and headwind on the return, have this in mind.
As for the run will be hot and humid I am guessing close to the 90's and 80% to 90% of humidity. Will be flat in general with may be a few 50 to 200 meters inclines depending on where they decide to do the run.
The swim will be none wetsuit guarantee
If anybody need recommendations of hotels or anything please feel free to ask.
I am considering it as well. After blowing lots of dough on an IM this year, I have been working on the husband to sell it as a family vacation since it is my kids spring break!
Eric, we have the same birthday? March 19th rules. I figure this is a better way to celebrate than watching CNN announce the 8th anniversary of the war in Iraq. Yep, that happened on our birthday, too.
And what a way to kick off "aging up." Boo, 35-39. Uber competitive and somewhat depressing. ;)
Has anyone ever heard of this company?
I met the woman who owns it swimming at Wilson and I bet she could hook us up... She's a local and I think a DC Tri-er.
I'm also part of the March 19th birthday club, and thought this would be a great way to enter a new decade and to age up to the next AG too!
I heard quite a bit of chatter about this race over the weekend, and it sounds like there are quite a few of us that are very serioulsy considering pulling the trigger on this one soon.
Yes, March 19th b-day rules. Hopefully this time I can party after a race not like this weekend that I took a 12 hour nap and I miss all the parties. I with check for post race celebrations
Seriously, what are the odds that there are three of us with the same birthday? Apparently we have a contingent.
I'm looking at plane tickets...
I got a reply from Michelle at tritheworld.com, and she is going to take a look at some options.
I can't believe this might be more than a pipe dream.

Abby thats a great deal.
Any body interested in pricing between 270$ and 300$ is the avg. anything under 270 is a great deal. and anything under 240 is a most without thinking.
Thanks for speaking up! This is exciting :)
Abby - I don't have travel plans yet. I'm thinking of flying in on Thursday and then staying for a little "spring break" afterwards. Let me know if you want to potentially coordinate.
For those of you "seriously considering" it - Sign up. It will be fun.
Also, does anyone have suggestions for training plans - online plan, plan designed specifically for you by a coach (if so, recommendations for local coaches)? Just curious as to your preparation methods.
I'd definitely like to have some training buddies (esp during the winter). Let me know!
I just sign in and hope spirits are steel high for this race
a few inside news from the race
MACCA has confirmed is participation on the race, The IM world Champion
Rumors are that LANCE AMSTRONG will also be doing the race but is just rumors
When I went to Miami 2 weeks ago I spoke with PR of the race for almost an hour to get details of the race.
The race will be run by WTC the Tampa crew will be heading down to the island and put the race together. So at least the odds of having a Miami fiasco are low really low. WTC wants to put a lot of $$$$ and emphasis on this race because they want to make this race the kickoff race of every season for North America area
The swim will be none wetsuit and will be on protected water.
Expect a long T1 like Augusta or a little bit longer than Nations.
The bike will be mostly flat the plan is to ride between 20 and 24 mile then do an 8 - 10 mile loop and then head back. Course is mostly flat but wind on the return might be tough
The run will be 2 loops and it will take you to the street of old San Juan and to the doors of el Morro fortress. It will be a challenging because it will be hot and humid and will have some nice inclines that you will be tough on you.
I f you plan to stay at the host hotel you won’t need a car.
If you plan to rent a car you can find less expensive hotels close to the race and drive to race mourning
Hope this help
Have any questions let me know
That's awesome info!!
I'm hoping to get some information back from Michelle at TritheWorld with some specifics for flight, hotel, bike transport package prices. If anyone who's considering this race is interested in heading over with the group, post here or email me off line and whenever I hear back, I'll send the information out.
Keep me informed on this please, thanks.
I'm fairly new to the group and have yet to meet any of you all face to face. But i've signed up for this race as my first 70.3. Let me know if there are any planned training rides/runs/swims over the winter.
A few more race details:
Course Maps - they were approved last week by local government agencies and are now pending final WTC approval. Please note, being a inaugural race it takes time and effort to develop quality and safe routes.....not too mention the approval process, mainly because the bike route travels along 4 different municipalities.....once we get the green light from WTC, they will be posted. We estimate by the end of November.
Aid Stations (AS) - 3 AS for the Bike Route (out and back with an inner loop) and 6 AS for the run (2 loops = 12 stations) - pending final confirmation
Number of entrants = 1205 out of 1500 extra 500 for charity
expect to be slod out by Mid December
