Dropped bike for transport at Conte's and bumped into Eric & Jorlie! I will fly down Thur 17th evening and right now my plan is: - Fri: practice swim, drive the bike course (need a ride) and bike the run.
- Sun: snorkeling or scuba diving during the day. But if I'm really beat up, I may just go sightseeing.
In case you are interested, swim waves are posted:
I'm in the second to last one. Ugh.
Who's ready to go!!?
I was browsing a slowtwitch forum on San Juan and saw the following post:
An important "heads up" to anyone swimming the San Juan 70.3 course. The water under the bridge is very shallow
so you may feel tempted to stand there. Don't stop and stand up there!!!! The problem is that there are a good number
of broken bottles you could easily step on. The exit area has some broken bottles as well. Swim right up to the ramp.
I don't know this Hugh fella or if he knows what he is talking about but figured better safe than sorry to pass the info along.
Just a friendly reminder from the Board... For those of you who are headed down to San Juan, please click over to the Race section and indicate that you are attending, so that club members can know to watch for you! Here's a link:
Also, don't forget about the new Race Reports feature that can be accessed from that page.
Flying down to PR on Weds evening. Bib #1093, and 3rd to last wave (M 35-39). If anybody wants to hook up feel free to shoot me an email at username_cruz @ yahoo I also grew up around SJ, so don't hesitate to ask me questions about local stuff. I'll be around the race site beginning on Thurs morning.
Best to all.
I will go scout the bike course tomorrow afternoon maybe around 4. Anyone wants to tag along please let me know!
Julia--Hopefully, you found a lift b/c it is nearly impossible to go out & ride the bike course for the 1st 5-6 miles.
DC tri folks--If anybody wants to meet today, how about we do it by the swim exit ramp around 11. I'll be wearing my DC tri shirt, so easy to spot.
Yeah I may have to get a cab but is it worth the money? I'll be there around 11 for swim. Any good lunch place you recommend?
The official pics are out!!! Ben, our "effortless" run came out so damn well :)
Folks--there was nothing "effortless" about being out there on the sun, heat, humidity, killer short steep sections of run course, and no shade. Winds on the bike were strong as well. I enjoyed meeting you guys. Definitely one to remember. Best of luck to everyone the rest of the season.
Great to have met some of you! Hope all had a great race after pushing through strong currents at the end of the swim, killer headwinds, and well....you know the rest.
Despite the challenges, I had a blast. Hope all are relaxing and enjoying some time off.
If anybody is interested they have a special rate for 2012 of 199$$ race day march 18 it was a well run race I highly recommended In my opinion better run than Eagleman
Eric did you run the whole thing? I'm considering signing up...
I ran it almost all of it except the 2nd loop hill going back up to el morro I walked a little bit there
I this link the 4pic thAT HILL kill me the 2nd time
Nice pics. Actually I don't remember any streets that got cars parked on... OK I'm signing up to see if I was running the right course :) This time I'll bring some $ for KFC.
It's kind of hard to think about SJ 70.3 2012, when I still got my number marked from the sun on the side of my arm. I'm seriously thinking about doing this race. Based on the number of positive comments that I've gotten from both PR locals and folks from the states, I think this race will sell out much earlier this year. We really need to give kuddos to the race director and volunteer support.
First person to sign up should open up the official SJ 70.3 March 2012 thread.
