I just edited the original post to reflect the more reasonable 8:00am ride.
I plan to get out there on Saturday. I may have to turn back at Mountain Gate in order to get back home in time for an appointment. Lame, I know.
Haven't been on the bike in a while so it could be ugly. I may get dropped before the reservoir.
Good discussion so far. Tri bikes are fine -- I may be on mine -- just be safe. And as was mentioned before, do not ride in the aero position in the pack. If you forget, no problem, someone will quickly remind you ;-)
If you aren't sure about group riding dynamics, please don't be afraid to hold a wheel at the back until you get the hang of it. Despite roadies saying triathletes can't ride bikes (not pointing fingers at Abby or Jordan), we have a safe ride with some really experienced cyclists. This is a great time of year to join in and be able to ask questions since some of us (me) our on our way to fattening up for the winter.
Speed on these rides is usually 22+. I'm going to hang on as long as I can. Looking forward to getting dragged around town.
I might try to jump in with you guys tomorrow. I live up by Glen Echo so thought I may jump in as you guys head north. Can you tell me which ride you are doing and approximate time you depart (8:00 sharp?)? I'll use cue sheet to pick a good spot to link up. Thanks.
We'll be rolling through G-Town pretty promptly at 8:30.
I don't know the timing that well from there just because I never check my watch. I would guess that we hit the reservoir about 8:40 and from there we usually start riding pretty hard. We'll be doing the Great Falls loop most likely with Mountain Gate worked in. The map should be in the original post.
We'll keep our eyes open for you.
That is helpful. Hope to meet up with you. Thanks.
plus down and up the great falls hill.
see you in the morning.
I'm in and will split the difference by wearing an aero helmet on my road bike.
I had to work till 2:30 last night. I needed sleep. I bailed.
New guy here.
Looking like sunny and a mild 33-ish degrees on Saturday, but figured I would try to make it out to this ride for my first time. Anyone planning on riding? I have been known to ride above 20 out to Seneca before, but have not been riding as much lately. Still, would love to see how far I can go before getting dropped.
I would join at Georgetown (M and Wisconsin) if there is a group heading out.
Looking forward to it,
It was pretty chilly last week when we started but I don't hink anyone froze too badly.
I'm in to Great Falls. 8:10 from the hill, 8:30 through G-town.
Who else is in?
Just out of curiosity, how many among you are mountain bikers? I'm re-learning how to ride on the dirt. I'm thinking that on days when it's dry but too chilly to ride on the road would be good for heading out to the trails. It doesn't feel as cold when you are protected from the wind and riding at 8mph.
If there is sufficient interest I'll start another thread for the off-road weekend rides.
Could be very interesting with some off-road rides over the cold season. In....
I'll be out tomorrow, Wisc & M bank parking lot @ 0830.
@Travis - I'd definitely be up for some MTB action over the winter, maybe either up to Schaeffer Farms in Germantown or down to Fountainhead.
Great group out there this week!
It was pretty awesome to see a group of about 20 people waiting for us at Georgetown. The Cap Hill crowd was a little thin, though...
I'm out for next week but am in for a Thanksgiving weekend ride for anyone who is town over the holiday.
I'll be IN for this coming weekend and also Thanksgiving- weather has actually been great once you start moving. Look forward to more rides.
Same here. I really missed riding this weekend and will be anxious to get out on Saturday.
Start time tomorrow? 8:30 from Georgetown?
I'll be there, 8:30 to great falls and back.
In. Meeting at G'town
See you all out there- starting from Cap Hill @ 8:10
Anyone in town and looking to get in a spin before stuffing your bellies on Thursday?
Weather permitting, I'd be up for a ride to Great Falls rolling from Cap Hill at 8:10.
Weather permitting, I might just be there at the bank in G-town!
