If I wasn't such a punk about getting back to work I would have made you go all the way to Poolesville. BEE-UTIFUL.

Me and at least one other may be in... coming down from Silver Spring... could meet in GTOWN if timing is... um... reasonable. -- TJ

I'm in for a little "preseason" ride to the T. I'll meet up in Gtown. I will probably get there about 8:15 to avoid the marathon. Are we heading out at the usual 8:30?
Can do earlier if people want to.

I'll be at 8th and penn at 8:10 to get to gtown by 8:30.

i'd be up for a quick out and back to falls with all the hills or skipping the hills and getting to the T and back.

So anyone riding tomorrow morning? Looks like the weather could be a problem, but I really want to hit the road now that the half marathon training and Conte's indoor rides are done. Planning on being at G'Town at 8:30 unless the weather is awful. Heading to the T.

I'll be there as well unless it's a heavy downpour. Temps should still be in the 60's.

I've got to hit the expo tomorrow. Not sure that I can ride and get there in time.

Start clearing next Saturday the 31st. Looking to officially unleash the Saturday ride for 2012.

I think "unofficially" we've been holding back. Can't wait for the 31st.

Just to be clear... You are talking about cycling, right?

I need to modify the original post to get it updated for 2012. Will try to do it tonight.

There is a chance of rain on Saturday morning. If it's mostly dry, the ride is on. 8:10am departure from 8th and Penn SE with an 8:30am pick-up in Georgetown.

If you are new to the ride for this season, please post your speed so we can make sure we have someone riding your speed so you won't end up alone. If you plan to ride 20-22 (or more if Patrick shows...), you'll be fine. If you think you are a bit slower, let us know.

When I update the original post, I'll include this, BUT, let's start making the meet up point the BP gas station at the River and Falls intersection. Let's also start including both the Mountain Gate Hill and, when we hit Great Falls, continue straight down the hill, turn around at the bottom and ride back up. It's a nice steady climb but not quite as steep as Mountain Gate. If you find that you have been dropped, skip those hills and continue on to the BP parking lot and we'll all catch up there.

The logic behind the BP regroup is to eliminate those times where we all regroup at the top of Great Falls and sit around only to stop again at BP for bathroom or food break. Hopefully this will be a one-stop shop - especially as we get into the season and start riding longer to T, Poolesville and beyond.

If you really hate this plan, please let me know. I am totally open to suggestion.

-Travis

I am new to the group and actually live in the NYC area... but I joined because I am in the NoVA / DC area very often visiting family. I am curious to know approximately how far the Saturday ride is? Also, if someone clarify the actual meeting spot for the ride since I am not from the area - I would really appreciate it. My pace is anywhere from 18-22 mph. I am training for my second full distance Ironman, so distance isn't really an issue... I figure I should be able to keep up with the group(?). I hope the weather cooperates for this Saturday's ride....it would be great to join you guys.

If you take a look at the very first post, it has all the info you're looking for. Minimum ride is about 40 from the hill, 30 from Georgetown.

Sounds like you will fit right in. Take a look at the original post. If it doesn't answer your questions, let us know.

Looks like there are at least three of us planning to head out tomorrow. Who else is joining?

We're still sitting on a 30% chance of rain for tomorrow morning. Temps should be pretty decent as long as we stay dry. If it's raining, I'll post whether or not I'm staying in by 7:45.

I updated the 40-mile Great Falls route for this week. The new map linked includes the Mountain Gate climb, exiting out of the neighborhood back on to MacArthur and up to Great Falls and then the new trip down into Great Falls Park and back up that little hill. I forgot to map in the Mass. Ave Climb but that one will typically be included on that way back in to town as well.

Also, help me spread the word about the new regroup point at the BP station as we get into the season. This will be the new standard. So if you lose the group or just don't have the legs for the extra climb, head on over to the BP and we'll catch up there.

I am getting a bit of a head start with Jen Werner because we need to do 100 miles, but we'll probably end up rolling with you guys for a bit.

Stopping at the shopping center is smart. Better place to stop and I think attacking those rolling hills is good for the legs.

I'll be out as long as it's dry.
