Just wondering if anyone has ever gone to the National Arboretum for their running? It seems really nice, but I’m wondering how safe it is early in the AM and if anyone has any idea what some of those loops add up to mileage-wise?
I have, just not legally. Mapmyrun.com you can calculate the loops probably.
I do long runs there on the weekends. The outermost loop is about 3 miles, according to g-maps pedometer. I run there and back from the Hill, so mileage adds up fast. It doesn't officially open until 8 AM, and I've never felt unsafe there in daylight.
It's a little funky between 15th/Maryland and the entrance, but once you're in you're going to be fine. I wouldn't run to or from there after dark, but other than that I think it's a great run option. And you could stop afterwards for a bite to eat at the Capital City Diner http://www.capitalcitydiner.com/.
Mmmm, french toast. I'm sold! Thanks everyone.
Are the roads in the arboretum accessible for running before it "officially" opens at 8AM?
