yes, they are and I have a question that I hope someone can give a reasonable answer to (sarcastic, humorous, snide responses also welcomed): Why do the older guys (Full disclosure: I am one) start in the later waves thereby running in the warmest part of the race (i.e., the ones most likely to have a heart attack in the heat)?

WOW! And only 3 minutes betweeen waves. It will be very crowded out on the course. At Timberman, I was in the second to last wave and literally passed almost 1,200 people.

Well at least it's better then NJ - that was a late start for me and while I don't mind running I DO mind running at high noon...in July...in NJ (=humidity).

is there a way to figure out if i'm in the 'a', 'b' or 'c' group or do I get that info with the race pack? same question regarding upstream/downstream start.

thanks,
Brian

Older guys start later due to age discrimination by tri organizers.

I don't think there is an upstream vs. downstream anymore. All the same for all waves.

The waves are not the same as last year. They now go in opposite directions, "eggbeater" style. So if you are 3 min behind previous wave, you are actually 6 min behind swimmers going in your direction. Most people probably caught that but for those who did not...

Hopefully not as HOT as last year. Looks like temps in the 80's. Old guys rule!

Actually-they couldn't do the 'egg beater' style so it's back to all one direction. It is going to be crowded out there.

Old guys do rule.

they put the old guys later so that they can watch 25-40 yro women pass them. lol

from the old guy standpoint that might be the only good thing about starting late.

And here I was just thinking there were no 'sarcastic, humorous, or snide' comments being made. Glad to see this site has not lost it's touch. As for the women I say 'Bring it'.

Hey - I was in the 2nd to last swim wave last year - as a middle age female. Got out on that hot hot run course after 10:30! So stop whining!

Yeah - well I am 28 out of 32 again - this yr at the bottom - starting at 8:21a. Wasn't the purpose of having 2 swim courses to get these waves off faster. This is when I went out last year. All we can do now is hope for overcast skies and not the 90F+ 90%+ humidity that struck us last year!

I stand corrected on the "eggbeater" - when/why did they change it back? I was hoping that would get me out there earlier. Thanks for pointing that out!

its too bad they couldnt' do what nyc tri did and basically break the waves up into 2 separate races practically, with a rest between of 30 min to let the biek course clear out a bit.. but what can you do.
