Has anyone heard about this DC tradition? There are vague references in some old websites and forums (not DC Tri Club) but I haven't found any concrete information about it.
Kim Jong Il is dead. There is no need to do this sort thing anymore.
I think I'd rather do the trainer century that day.
There's the annual Loop d' Loop ride there held by Velo DC, as well as other groups. 10 am start. Usually folks go about 30-40 clicks, then sometimes get brunch (to further alleviate the effect of the previous evening's liquid intake).
Forecast is mild temps, cloudy. The main gathering place is the picnic area at the end of the Pt., tho you can hook up with riders of your pace anywhere along the loop. Nice way to kick off day 1 of the Club Challenge bike month:
Century? You're insane. No, in previous years we've done more like a 25k (three long loops), then called it a day for more of the hair of the dog. But more power to you, especially if you're registered for the club championship - get out there a bike away on the 1st to get us ahead. ;)
I've done 50 miles on a trainer and 22 miles on a treadmill (not in one day; not even in the same year); this does seem like the next logical stretch of boredom.
(Yes, and 4 years of law school at night - the penultimate stretch of boredom.)
Will most likley show up for a few laps, but will not be doing a century at HP (on new years day or ever!).
I'll see you guys about 10am. Happy New Year!!
In in in!
See you at 10ish!
I'm a maybe... depends upon weather, and whether anyone organizes a less boring route :)
Tornado Warning, for Sunday, January 1: Fast woman forecast to ride 31 loops around Hains Pt., for total of 100 miles, generating cycle-clonic winds in clockwise direction, touching off twisters. Storm advisory in effect; tsunami probable for Tidal Basin. First 'cane of year starts with an "A": Hurricane Abby....
Hey guys - there are going to be a few of us, abiet a bit slower then Hurricane Abby, riding there at a more civilized time of 2pm. Feel free to join if you want to.
A) There's *no way* I'm doing an actual century at Hains Point. That sounds more mind-numbing than the bubbly I will be drinking later. :)
B) I might be in this for the fun of it, which will involve gale-force winds only part of the time, and hanging with my DC Tri buds the rest of the time! True, I haven't been on my P3 since Myrtle, and she does need to stretch her gears a little, but read the second part of the second sentence of "A."
See you next year!
After today's NYE swim, I'm pumped to get back on my bike. I'm embarrassed to say the last time I was on it. Probably will bring my running shoes for a short run to follow.
This peer pressure will make me behave tonight.
Anyone interested this year, weather permitting??
There'll be a bunch of peope from VeloDCity there from 10-1, among others. (And Abby & Eliot Lane will do at least a century each is the rumour....)
May be in. Other option is to race a 5k in Reston, then hit the W&OD Trail afterwards.
In - weather permitting.
I'll take the "with brunch" option, please.
As an alternative, Katie Tobin and I are going to do 2-3 loops of the smallwood course. All are welcome, if the prospect of 30+ HP loops does not appeal for some reason.
