Just wanted to see if anyone is considering signing up for Musselman 2011. I've been considering signing up for my first HM in 2011 and searching all the different races. I'm seeing very positive comments about Musselman. I was hoping to find a HIM kind of close to home so I can get myself and my bike there without breaking the bank. I see comments about transportation being bit of an issue. Do people usually drive to NY? Would it be easy to find carpooling options within the club?
Shameless plug for my hometown...do this race as your first HIM! :-) Not only will you be warmly welcomed by the locals, be amazed at the organization of the event and be pleased with the course...you will also be fed by my mother! haha. We hold a pre-race dinner every year at my parent's house for DC Tri. Best of all, if the race isn't going that well for you, there are plenty of wineries to stop at along the race route.

I'm seriously looking at this race for my first HIM, too, for the same reason: Everyone I know who's done it has only positive things to say about it. I'll probably wait until early next year to commit to it, but it's definitely the frontrunner HIM for me. If I do it, I'll definitely be looking for carpool buddies.

I did this race as my first HIM last summer and am considering it again for 2011. It was amazing, everything Ryan said is true, and the highlight was his mother's home cooking! I did a ton of research on different races and chose this one, with not one regret. I rented a car and drove up with friends, it made for a super fun weekend. If you have further questions, feel free to contact me at mandileissoo@hotmail.com.
I, too, am looking at this as my first HIM. I'm torn between Kinetic in May & Musselman. I like that Kinetic is super close but feel like early July is a more realistic race date. Plus, I've also heard this is a fantastic HIM, esp if it's your first. I think I could be talking into doing this race.... :-)
I would totally be into training with/ carpooling/ sharing lodging with other DC Tri club folks.
Cheers,
Kimber
I was also considering this race for my first HIM, since I've heard great things about it. Sounds like we could definitely put together a DCTri group.
I signed up for this race for my first HIM and am looking forward to it. It would be great if we could get a whole group of DC Tri people together.
Liz - did you get a room in Athlete's Village? I wonder how quickly those rooms go.
Ok I haven't signed up yet but I'm 90% in and would love to carpool/share gas/rental....etc.
Hey everyone,
We've got a new feature on the website where you can basically RSVP for the race so others can see who's attending various races.
Would you mind clicking on the attend link on the new Musselman page and encouraging others to do the same? The hope is that this will make race planning easier and more social for everyone!

I havent signed up for the athletes village -- I should really get on that. I will be looking for car pool partners when the time comes!
Just signed up for this race (and the HIM training program too, this will be my first one)!
Do people who have done this race before recommend the Athletes Village, or are their hotels nearby that are good options?
Bryan
Just signed up! :)
Let me know if anyone wants to carpool or split a house/suite at the athlete's village.
Yay! Pam's coming!
I'll definitely want to carpool (i.e. bum a ride) and will also want to share a room/house/suite/tent/whatever.
It's gonna be fun!
Kris
I got a room at the Athlete's village and would love to share a ride with someone. I don't have a car but I can rent a zipcar.
Hello All,
I'm looking for a ride or a person to share my ride (rental) with for the Musselman weekend. I originally planned on going early Sat. morning and coming back on Sunday evening however now I think I should get there on Friday and leave first thing on Monday. But I'm flexible. Anyone still looking for a ride or a ride partner?
Also, I have a room in the Athlete's village for Sat. night. Do any of you locals have suggestions for Friday and Sunday nights?
Thanks!
Burcu
I'm driving up on Friday midday and coming back on Monday morning. I have room in my car for one bike and one or two passengers if anyone is still looking for a ride!
For anyone headed up to Musselman this weekend who hasn't already RSVP'ed for the pre-race dinner at my house, please do so here:
Also, we'll have our club tent setup right at the finish line and it will be stocked with all kinds of drinks and snacks so be sure to stop by after the race to say hi. Better yet, be sure to tell your friends and family who are coming to cheer you on to stop by and grab a snack on us to keep them full!
Ryan
