Etiquette tips for group rides
POSTED: 3/21/13 2:31 PM

Chuck from the Bike Rack just posted a good blog entry about group ride etiquette. One thing he doesn't mention that is worth pointing out: aerobars and pace lines do not mix! Seriously, this is how people get killed. So if you want to do a group ride where you are in a tight pace line or peloton, bring your road bike or at least sit up.

“Killed” riding in aero bars…

My impression – as witness on a few Freshbikes rides – is risky riding by roadies! Too fast for the given conditions & traffic, trying to merge into a gap that doesn’t exist, talking on their cell phone, etc. There were a few serious crashes last year and I really doubt any were the result of riding in the aero bars.

Nevertheless, please exercise caution when riding. It is not worth getting injured or worse!

Talking on a cell phone while riding on a bike? Talent or stupidity.

Also - riding with ear buds in - I don't care how low you claim your music is - It's also illegal.

Not sure why this is in the Swim section, but IMHO aero bars have no place OR benefit in a paceline.
