In for the Oly - assuming I can get over my post-marathon peanut m&m and swedish fish eating binge...

I am in for the Sprint on 4/18. First official triathlon ever! Can't wait to hit the water! Just need a wetsuit!

Are most people driving down the morning of the race?

Looks like packet pick-up is at 0800 and the race starts at 1000.

Has anyone been to this race before? Is it hard to find parking?

Plenty of parking, assuming you get there before 9am, in the gravel lot before the entrance to the Marina...should be pretty obvious. Take the run course trail/cut through to get over to the marina instead of walking all the way back out to the main road.

Any guesses on water temp? I'm guessing low to mid 60's?

The website said low 60s since the nearby electric plant keeps the water a little warmer.

Anybody doing the sprint want to meet up the morning of the race?

OLY - will drive down morning of.

Low to mid 60's? Really? So not looking forward to this. Doesn't your heart stop below 65 degrees?

I heard last year though they made the OLY swim 800 yds since it was so cold...looking at the times from last year, I'm pretty sure that's what they did.

I can only hope.

See ya there, in my new DC Tri shirt!

I am in for the Sprint...
Anyone have comments about the bike course? Hilly, flat, windy?
Also, the website says that the first portion of the run is "off road"? does that mean serious trail running or just a gravel path?

Bike is "rolling" with windy sections as you cross the lake likely, run is rolling, swim is FLAT!

Trail run section is about .25 mile long and you'll need to watch your footing as there are/were a bunch of roots and depressions to navigate. Then a gravel road section for a tenth of a mile, then pavement to the turn-around. Nothing crazy.

The swim was short last year? Seriously?! And here I was thinking all year that I've turned into a rocket-fast swimmer...
