Xterra Racin'
POSTED: 4/27/11 9:59 AM

With one of the first races of the mid-atlantic Xterra season getting underway this weekend I thought I'd put out the feelers to see if anyone is planning to race off-road this year?

Might be cool to link up at a race or some mtb rides on some local trails...

Cheers,
Andy

I did a relay team for Bel Monte 50 miler endurance race last month (1st place team!). I may have caught the trail running bug.

I'd be down for a trail race if there are other clubbers going.

I am very keen to do some off road running and riding but do not have anything on the schedule yet. Would be interested to hear what other folks are planning.

Andy,

Heading up this weekend to Xterra Jersy Devil. I am only doing offroad this year, so I am always looking for more people to train with. I mostly ride with my MTB buddies, so I am always chasing. I am not super fast, but I can hold my own. My schedule is the following:

May1- Xterra Jersey Devil
May 15- New Jersey King of The Hill
June 12- Richmond Mid-Atlantic Championships
Jul 10- Xterra EX2
Jul 31- Xterra Dirty Grizzly, PA
Aug 21- Xterra Chalottesville

Might throw Xterra Appilacian in there, but not to sure. Just depends on how burnt out I am by then.

I would be interested. I was a MTBr for a few years before getting on the road (and actually miss it a lot). I got a nice bike for it too!

The Xterra races always scare me with the trail/bike racing/passing fiasco, so I never considered it. If there was someone to help me with that part, I'd be in.

I used to ride almost every weekend the trails at Schaffer Farms and less technical ride out in Rosaryville.

Good deal!

Sounds like we're hitting some of the same races. Hopefully we can motivate others to get in on the action.

Here's my Xterra schedule:
May1- Xterra Jersey Devil
June 12- Richmond Mid-Atlantic Championships
Jul 10- Xterra EX2
August 7 - Xterra Appalachia

Hi Elaine,

I know wayyyyyy back in the day we used to have a pretty regular DC Tri off-road group ride...maybe I'll try to start something like that, or atleast just post to the Off-road area when I'm heading out to the local trails on the weekends?

Luckily, for the most part, the xterra courses tend to have plenty of sections that are nice and wide for passing, in addition to the more narrow single-tracky stuff. So no worries there as long as you let people know what side you're going around them on...

Andy, are you doing IM Canada or did I hear wrong?
I did Xterra EX2 last year with a group of friends and loved it.
Am leaning towards doing it again this yr but haven't reg'd yet.
Thinking about Richmond MAC 6/12 but am less inclined vs. EX2.
Mark, you are beasting it!

Adam,

That was the original plan, but going to stick with short course this year... Sign up for EX2! I think we'll have a big group there for it. Most are planning to camp, as well.

Cheers.

Xterra peeps,

I'm over in Silver Spring and ride weekly at Fairlands in Laurel in case people are looking for a possible ride that is as challenging as you want to make it.
I'm hoping to do Richmond, Flintstone, and Appalachia (Pittsburgh). So it might be nice to meet you all sometime soon.
All the best,

What you also might know, is that with only 3 races with points. Andy is number 2 in the Mid Atlantic Region. If we can convince him to come with me over to Charlottesville, he can add another win, that will most likely put him up in the #1 spot where he should be. You all would be amazed to see him tear a course up.

Anyone have Xterra plans in '12? More specifically, does anyone have a recommendation for a good, beginner friendly, local race?

I did my first trail run last month and it was harder than expected (my balance is total crap), so I think that means I should consider an off-road race for this year. I guess I would need a mountain bike...
