I'm not sure if this is common knowledge to people, but I did the bike course for the General Smallwood Int'l race this weekend and one of the roads you need to turn on is not marked. Just before mile 20 you are to take a left on Mason Springs Road off of Port Tobacco Road, but there is no Mason Springs Road sign. However, there is a MD Route 425 sign. I thought this might be helpful so people don't accidentally overshoot the turn, like I did.
Where did you get the cue sheet? We will make some up for for the Brick Nic this weekend and your info is super helpful!
I printed the course map from the event's website, http://www.setupevents.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=event_detail&eventID=1971 .
The cue sheets are posted on the events page for Saturday's Brick Nic: http://www.dctriclub.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=interact.events&id=626.
Folks will need to bring their own cue sheets!
Anyone planning on riding multiple loops? I'll be there early to get a head start - any Placid/Louisville/Wisconsin folks need to get some solid bike time in?
I plan to get there early and would do the first loop with you!
There are a few of us planning to clip in at 6:45 for a double brick on the Oly course (bike.run.bike.run). It should be awesome. Feel free to join, bring your own cue sheets.
Not sure I can keep up with the 6:45 am group but will likely clip-in with you all and get a (single) brick in before we start picnic set-up/gear watch.
I will be there early as well; not sure how many loops I will be doing; but we will see.
Does anyone happen to have a Garmin file of the bike course that I can load into my bike computer?
Looking to ride early too.
Forecast for next 10 days after cloudy today: avg 82, partly sunny.
Just made it on biketoaster...
map, garmin files, cue sheet, elev, etc.
My plan is to clip in at 6:30. Holli, if your crew is willing to start a few minutes earlier, that would be great.
Thanks for the course download, Adam. FWIW, I think the southern Sweden Point Road is permanently gated except during an official race. I've been down there a few times to ride the course and had to use the main gate for both exit and entry to the park.
Yes, the gate is closed. John from MTS has reached out to State Park to see if they will open it for us on Saturday morning. (Thanks John!) If not, we'll improvise and use the main gate. Bring your cue sheets and roll with it!
Ihan, the double brick crew will clip in at 6:30 with you.
Is anyone interested in a longer ride that doesn't require three loops of the course? There is an easy modification that makes the route about 37 miles. I'd like to ride 60ish (one "long" loop + the Oly) or 75 (two long loops).
I'm definitely not clipping in at 6:30, but 7:30 is a possibility.
"Extended" OLY bike route, if interested. I've never ridden it, so I can't comment on road conditions, hills, etc.
If the link doesn't work, the add-on is just to stay on Riverside until it intersects with Port Tobacco.
There was a disgustingly large amount of various kinds of trash on the bike course last week...BEWARE OF GLASS!
I could join for an extended Oly. I had been thinking of doing Oly+sprint, but could be talked into longer.
Message me if you want to coordinate meeting.
