The EXPO Shuttle PDF from the WDC Tri website is adamant about not getting dropped off on Ohio Drive or Independence Ave. in private vehicles on the morning of the race.
"THERE IS NO PARKING OR ATHLETE DROP-OFF ON OHIO DRIVE OR INDEPENDENCE AVENUE ON RACE DAY!! The NPS and Park Police will remove the race bracelets of any athlete who is dropped off in a private vehicle on either Ohio Drive or Independence Ave."
The prohibition applies to Independence Ave. on Saturday as well.
Please read the PDF (available at the Athlete Services page on the official website) before you head down to rack your bike on Sat. and before the race on Sun. Don't let all of your training go to waste because of a minor matter like this.
Whether or not these rules are necessary is a debate for another thread. Winning the argument on Monday isn't going to help if you miss out on the race on Sunday.
Does that apply to taxis too? Where can you get dropped off if not on Independence Ave.
It's not ideal, but if you're in a taxi I'd ask to get dropped off on Constitution and just walk around Lincoln.
I'm guessing that taxis would be defined as private vehicles, i.e., anything other than the official shuttle buses for the race.
The DC tri website says to get dropped off at 17th and Constitution.
