Kudos to the team on a fantastic feature for the web site -- I'm wondering, given the number of races in the area as well as those that DCTri'ers compete in elsewhere, if there's a way to put a limit on what gets included to prevent excess clutter. My initial thought is:

Tris/Dus: All in DC/MD/VA/DE/WV/PA/NJ. Elsewhere, only half- and full-distance races, with certain exceptions (e.g., NYC/Alcatraz/Chicago)
Running - Nothing shorter than an 8K
Biking - Nothing shorter than a metric century
Swimming - Only OWS

If others have alternate ideas, that would be great, just trying to prevent this useful tool from getting clogged up.

Good point. We've got some ways to split the races up, but weren't really sure how much of it to roll out since we weren't sure if members would really like the new features and use them.

What we can do is "feature" races like:
+ local races
+ training program goal races
+ championships
(There's a whole featured races section, but currently only the national club championships is featured.)

Then, we can include all races in the longer, main listing.

The main points are:
1) To make it easy for members to know what races are really important for club competitions or local support
2) To make going to races even more social by allowing members to coordinate arrangements among those going.

So what do you think? Would the featured races capability help?

Maybe put the club focus races stickied at the top at all times, then below those have all the other races split into "Swim", "Bike", "Run", and "Tri"?

This a tri club. Stick to our core ... nothing but triathlon events. Trying to list everything in sight, while noble, may take away what this club is really about ... promoting the sport of triathlon.

There are mechanism on this forum for people to independently seek out other folks who does particular non-tri races. As an organization we should stick to our core and invest resources that will make our core stronger.

This is DCTri's mission statement:
Mission Statement
"Our goal is to foster camaraderie among local triathletes and to build interest in the sport of triathlon throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. "

My definition of a triathlon: Anything that involves swim, bike, AND run regardless of distance. We have people who are interested in mini-sprints in the pool to Iromans to Deca-Iron distance races. Let's focus on that. Leave the promotion of the pure cycling races, running races, and swimming races to others.

Just my two cents :)

i think a section showing more than just triathlons is good.

cycling/running and swimming races individually will allow triathletes to get better in their weaker sports and in turn will help out the triathlon sport in growing.

also by going to the individual sports triathletes can help the sport grow by introducing the triathlon spirit and sport to other single sport athletes.

afterall, how many of us were lured into triathlons not by a tri club or going to a triathlon race, but by a person at a running/cycling/swimming event that then introduced us to the sport?

something to consider, the mission statement still stands and can be promoted by also pomoting the individual sports.

that is my 2 cent piece.

Lots of good points, but any event that consist of our big three "S-B-R" should be included. I mean, just because someone can only swim vertical do we not include some local OWS events? The reason I came into this sport was because I could swim and run which was way before I owned a bike.

To help plan for events that are sometimes a year out, it's nice having tri, amd major run, bike, and swim events, in one place. Also, events like Army Ten Miler and Reston Century are a key part of many folks' tri training plans. And this new ap beats the existing DCT calendar by a long shot.

Thanks for designing this - it's a brilliant idea. I would suggest adding sections like 'race reports' and 'club races' for specifically triathlons, runs, swims and cycling. That way if you feel overwhelmed by other races and just want to see tris you can.

Thanks everyone. We'll be organizing this a little better as more races are filled in and will make sure some training races like swims, bikes and runs are included where many club members may want to participate and therefore coordinate using this new tool.

A few responses to what's been said so far:
+ There is a section for race reports for each race. You can view all race reports by going to the race report section under race, or you can view the race reports for a single race by going to that race's page. Right now though none of the races have been held and therefore no one has submitted any race reports so there aren't any to view. But if you look in those two places you'll see a red box on the right to submit your own report. Once approved (for appropriate content) by someone on the Board, you'll see them on the site

+ Club races are already called out separately and included in the overall list. Check out the club races section under race. Featured races are called out the same way

The Race section is a great idea. Some other races to think about including:

Rev3 events
Diabolical Double
All the North American Ironman events if putting all the Ironman events is too cumbersome

This race feature is a GREAT idea!

Can we add:
Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon - Philadelphia - June 25 & 26

Also, two great running races:
Monument Avenue 10K - Richmond - April 2
Cherry Blossom 10 miler - Washington - April 3

Thanks!

I see USAT Nationals is on the list. Can we add USAT Worlds Long course - Henderson, NV Nov. 5th. I know a few of us will be heading to that.

Thanks!
Courtney
