Columbia Tri - Logistics Question
POSTED: 5/18/10 10:14 AM

For anyone out there who has done this race in the past and also drove race-morning from DC. How much extra time should I allow for the morning of the race, taking into account traffic and the parking situation on race morning?

Thanks in advance,
Sean

I will likely leave NoVa around 4:30-4:45a to ensure parking at race site. Then hurry up and wait for my 8:12a swim start.

Aren't road races so much easier.

I also try to roll from Bethesda NLT 0445 to beat the traffic into the park. Traffic starts to back up as the morning progresses.

When I did Columbia in 08 and 09, I left the house in Bethesda at 5 am and got to the parking space at 6 am. There was a line of traffic (~ 3/4 mile long) to the lot but it moved quite fast.

get there early you won't have any problems,

meaning try to arrive by 6am or earlier, anytime after that you will hit a lot more traffic.

try to get there at 8am you do so at your own risk of missing your wave.

good luck.
