Was anyone able to register for NYC 2010? I tried for 20 minutes only to get booted several times and now at 12:17 AM the web site says it sold out in 7 minutes... 7 minutes are you kidding me? C'mon Man....

I was on twice.. filled out the registration for twice and was booted twice. Last year it sold out in 20 minutes, this year 7. I suppose next year it will sell out in 1 minute flat... Knew i should have gotten Verizon Fios.

basically one of the only ways to get into the race is the same way as M dot races are now.

you "have to" volunteer for the race the year before and they then give you a code for the next year registration, i had that but forgot to enter in this coming year's race. oh well.

all the big or popular races are now selling out in 10 minutes etc just like U2/Jay-Z/Springsteen concerts. LOL

that is a side effect of the popularity of "bringing the sport to the masses" and the beauty of "its ALWAYS GOOD to have MORE PEOPLE IN the sport" that people always want to tout. Now being that you are shut out of a race in less than 7 minutes are you so sure you want "everyone and their mother" literaly doing the sport? LOLOLOLOL.

Best of luck getting into other races for next year. there are plenty of other smaller races that need your support.

thanks for the cheer up! to be honest, i love local races equally as much. last year, i decided to do all of the big races i could and i never really felt i got much more out of them than i would have at all the local races i used to frequent. it was of course a great experience to race in nyc, but when you get down to the core and heart of triathlon, you get out of it as much as you put into it - no matter what race it is, or the prestige that comes with it.

just joking all in good fun, just like you i got closed out of it.

on a related note.

check out the tricalifornia.com site, looks like the alcatraz race after a few years of going to a lottery style registration, they are now going back to the "first come first serve" type of online registration like the nyctri is now. strange that they are taking a backstep.

give a try to that race if you have not done it, its an interesting race and one of the "classics" to do along with Wildflower if you are up to one of the toughest 1/2 IM distance races you can find. Again that is a one you "have to do 1 time". Its really inconvenient to get to and the camping thing, well camping has to be something you like to do, to enjoy that race.

The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is scheduled for May 30 2010. The Tri-California Alcatraz Triathlon is scheduled for August 29 2010. It seems they are adding a brand new one to the mix. Good news.

IMG/Premier Mgt will run Escape from Alcatraz in June now and will stick to the lottery system - opens 12/1/09. Registration $400. If you volunteer for Escape and are a Captain of Volunteers, you get an automatic registration (but not free) for the following year.

The 'brand new' race is only new because of the date. Terri from Tri California who was the RD of Escape for 30 years is running the August race. Terri's Alcatraz race, which is the same course as Escape, opens on 11/27. It is little bit cheaper @ $320. Water will still be cold in August! Do it!

i dont' think its the same exact course because they are saying that the new course has a 25 mile bike, which is longer than the traditional escape from alcatraz race.

yeap its expensive, remember the "race in the middle of a major city" aspect of a race, = expensive. Again this isn't "near or around the suburbs of SF" this is a race "in SF".

You have to pay to play in this sport. LOL

SF water is cold and the currents are dangerous...I'm signing up.
